I still prefer the ones homemade, we never order out for pizza at home.

Even prefer some frozen ones we doctor up from the store over carry out.

When the Shop I'm in does get Papa Johns when they do a large event type of thing, and wings etc, I always grab some.

I have no idea these days what some places make, but I always grab some when it's there and free I guess.

I agree that Papa Johns is the best of the chain pizza places. There really aren't even any local ones around San Antonio that are better. Papa Johns is the most expensive though (compared to Pizza Hut and Dominos.)

We have a lot of shit pizza joints here on the boardwalk. I remember watching a worker put his dirty hands in a big vat of cheese. He then put the cheese on the customer's pizza. Nasty!

Uhh, how did you expect them to sprinkle the shredded cheese and other toppings on the dough? "Dirty" how? Other toppings and tomato sauce? That's normal. In most places they only have to wear gloves if they handle it after it is cooked. BTW, when I hear "vat," I assume you are talking about a liquid but I know that's not how it's done or you would have been calling him an ambulance.

Yeah but the quality varies a great deal across the country because of water and milk and such.

In Minnesota they are awesome.
In Nevada they were damn good.
Here in Virginia they are kinda meh. Only slightly better than Pizza Hut.

Favorite local pizza restaurants?

1 - Rocky Roccoco, which you may have not had yet.
2 - Godfathers
3- Papa Johns

After that it goes downhill quickly.
Little Caesars used to be good way back in the big square pan days. Not so much now.

Around here, the PJs aren't cooked enough. They're done, but they just don't seem to brown/crisp enough. But the occasional 50% off deal they run means we get them a few times a year for sleepovers, etc. I tried Dominoes once since they revamped their recipe...ugh. Even doughier than PJs. Around here Pizza Hut is the best of the chains.
But yea, none of them touch our local shops or my homemade.

Horrible chain pizza. About the only thing lower is Little Caesars. Or if you really want to eat vomin, CICI's Pizza Buffet.

It's not a national chain, but Rocky Rococo is the best pie around.

Papa Johns is the best of the big chains, but they still have something wrong with their ingredients that all the big chains do. I think it might be the quality of their dough. If I eat a single piece of pizza from a big chain, I feel shitty for the next several hours. I have never had that problem with a local place.

I saw his hands and they looked dirty. I could tell!

I'm also in NJ and my parents have had cafes and coffee shops. My dad told me don't worry about how many restaurants are in your area, just make sure you do it better than the competition.

Absolutely true. My daughter once commented that it would be dumb for someone to open a pizza shop in our little town because we already had three. Not long ago a family from a town a little north of here opened their second shop and chose our town, made a much better pie, and now they are packed every night. It was a good lesson for my daughter to see .

Same thing happened here, except everyone thought the pizza was weird and too expensive, so it closed down.

Twice.

It could be the gluten. Is your penis still attached to your body?

Pizza Italia on the NE side, son.

Nope. looks like there is one location in Minnesota.

What about Cossettas?

Red Savoy or Davanis?

Punch is good if you're into wood fire pizza.

Also lots of people like Papa Murphy's take and bake pizza.

Obviously Pizza is subjective. Why not a thread how I like apples better than oranges. Anyway, I do have to agree: Papa Johns is the best pizza. I've tried them all, but always come back to Papa Johns. I'm not sure if it is the ingredients, crust, sauce or toppings, but they really are the best. Especially when they are half price.

I actually like PJ's, but haven't had any in years because the ball n' chain prefers pizza hut or dominos and I prefer it cheaper.

TBH, the best around here are NY pizzas knockoff's. Better pizza combos. Cheap by the slice. Proper rude dumbass Italians behind the counter. You get the whole enchilada.

We don't have PJ's here, Pizza Hut is way to greasy, Little Caesars gives me heartburn every time i try them, only good franchise around here is Dominoes. I probably buy from a local pizza place 9/10 times though.
