Ok, I hadn't bought any kind of CD at Wal-Mart (or anywhere else really) for a long time, but I got a new CD player and speakers put in my truck so I went out and bought the Staind CD. I was just driving along listening happily when I noticed that they bleeped out the bad words. I couldn't beleive they edited the CD! I tried to take it back but they said no refunds on opened CD's. I will never buy from Wal-Mart again if it can be helped :|.

Advice for the future: if you know that the CD contains profanity, do not buy it unless a "PARENTAL ADVISORY" sticker is on it.
By law, the CD is supposed to have this sticker... unless the words were censored.

Yeah, that is standard practice. I worked in a record store and we could only exchange an open item for the same thing. Ususally says something to that effect on the receipt.

Yeah, that's the way they were. I could exchange it for the same thing, but that's it. I finally buy a CD instead of downloading and I get screwed over. Is this some kind of sign?

Yeah, sorry you got burned, but man that's old hat. Wal-Mart is a family store. They always edit their CD's like that. In fact, if you look closely at the pricetag, you'll notice it actually says "EDITED" on the label.

Anyway, next time you'll be more wary

I still love wal-mart even with the censorship because of their decent prices and very good service. the people actually know what they are doing there (try to get same at target or kmart) and they will not try to kill you if you want to return something.

my 2 cents

I remeber The Wherehouse used to accept opened CD's, no questions asked. They had a 30 day "if you dont like it, we'll give you your money back" policy. Then CD burners got popular and they stopped doing that.

Hell I go there for their edited cd's...

I buy edited cd's because they're easier to find than the non-edited ones...

Maybe that's screwy, but being a DJ I have to have the edited ones... (don't need to be dj'n a dance and have the f word repeated over and over)

That's the nice thing about Tower Records, you CAN return a CD because you're not satisfied.

Wal*Mart has all sorts of signs around their CD's that say all music is edited. I cannot believe that artist would still want their music to be sold like that.

What the heck? which wal-mart do you go to? I've been in those crappy stores all over the country and every single one has the most retarded set of inbred idiots they could find for employees. I'll pay more and go to target just so I don't have to put up with the employees or patrons.

btw, I'm pretty sure the explicit lyrics label is voluntary. I've bought many many CDs that contained profanity that didn't have the label. Most recently, Green Day's International Superhits.

If I were you I would not post on here that you are buying CD's and using the music for a money making business, this is not legal. Better check the copyrite laws. Just check with your local radio station what they have to do to play music.

I hate Wal-Mart and everything about it. Well not really; I just hate the customers. Standing in the middle of the aisle with their buggy perpendicular. Doing something stupid in the parking lot.

I think Wal-Mart is probably the greatest concentration of idiots in one place.

Actually the parental advisory thing is completely voluntary. Most independent labels don't participate, in fact I don't think I've ever seen an indie label put one of those stickers on it... all the major labels do though... of course these days 95% of all music sold is on labels owned by the big 5 record companies.
