Meanwhile nVidia claims to have 448-bit memory! What is with that? They're probably totally lying... ATI uses 256-bit memory. I just can't believe how much nVidia is stretching the truth with their advertising 448-bit memory. That doesn't even make sense.

If you're not joking or being sarcastic, The GTX260, GTX275 and GTX295 all have a 448 bit memory "interface".

If you are joking or being sarcastic, why?

Oh, um, yeah. Sorry. I was joking based on pelu's claim that ATI must be lying when they claim to have 800 shaders vs. nVidia's 216.

Guess it was funnier in my mind than in practice

Honesty this is all a flaming because the 4870x2 is turning into a big load of problems...

But it isn't crap Pelu. ATI's 4850/70/90 all have 800 shaders.

But now I'll ask you, do you understand the concept of different architectures?

Meaning, do you understand that ATI's stream processors are not the same as Nvidia's stream processors? You cannot compare them by counting them. Means nothing.

It's like an alien landing on our planet, and it has 8 hearts. The alien is the same size as you, and has the same blood capacity, just eight hearts to pump it. We have one. Still pumps the same amount of blood. We are built very differently but still get the same job done.

Bad analogy? Maybe, but I hope you get the point.

So, are we clear? Nobody lied.

Think about how a P4 can run at 3GHz and get utterly demolished by a Core2 or i7 running at 3GHz. You can't gauge the performance of two very different architectures just by looking at technical specs, which is why websites like Anandtech benchmark actual performance in reviews.

Isn't it 1 shader per color (or something like that)? So 800 shaders would be like 266 of nVidias.

I'd tell the OP to go and read anand's Original article about the ATI 4800 series article, but like most people on here, they can't concentrate long enough to pay attention.

ATI's 800SP's is 800 String Processors. That comes from the 160 Shader cores each containing 5 string processors. 4 of the 5 do more simple operations and the 5th can do either simple or complex operations.

So ATI has 160 of the same type of units NVIDIA does, but each of those units can do more things at once then the nvidia counterpart, if the driver can break the work up such that all 5 string processor of each shader core have something to do. As we see from the benchmarks, not all games are written such that this can happen.

So in general it does about the same as 216 of NVIDIA's. On certain games that lend themselves to multi-tasking versus straight forward brute force the ATI shines. On games that are more brute force straight forward computing, the NVIDIA with more real cores wins.

OP is some kid who doesn't understand how things work around here- I thought that would be largely obvious due to the spelling and grammatical comprehension of most of his posts- let this die.

Is there a set way of how things are supposed to work around here? I'd like to think that instead of dismissing the kid, why not teach him the right stuff? Kids have a much greater capacity for learning than any adult.

And FYI, they also learn to give the respect they are given. Positively or negatively.

I agree with this 100%. And wow, a lot of you guys are really mean. Even if the OP wasn't a younger fellow.

sounds like ATI exagerate their shader number... i bet it only have around 160 or something like that....

I am really pissed with ATI... first the horrible lie.. but wont matter if... they support stuff like physx...

that drives me crazy.... I cant put my 4870x2 for video and the 8800gtx for physx... because it wont give me video in any card...

I cant get a physx ageia card because they are discontinued...

I cant get a 295 nvidia because it cost too much.... (shoplifting is troublesome)

The 8800 GTX alone with physx at the same time suck ass... in performance

AND MOST IMPORTANT... Physx doesnt work in ATI... CRAP!!!! and that guy in NGOHQ claim is easy to port it to ati...

what really drives me mad is that ATI no physx... only havok.. but Nvidia got the two... and also cost less.... too bad I cant change the whole computer at all and turn green.. like throwing away the card,, the mobo.. and such....

you post sounds like its coming from an idiot, your entire post makes no sense and is100% trolling.

String processors? Oh I see, nvidia is faster because they directly compute floating point values, while ATI's only work on strings and thus need a conversion from math to natural languages. So for like every 1 multiplication nvidia does, ati can handle like 1 sentence.

In someway's the larrabee part will have 12-24 cores / shaders.. But each of those is not equal to either nvidia's or ATI's.

Different architecture adds\subtracts different meaning to how and what these core's/ Shaders do impacting on speed and performance.

I will go as far as saying that a larrabee with 12 cores will kill a GeForce 9400 GT with 16 shaders/ cores "Whatever nvidia calls them" :-> lol

Also the memory question.... Lets take the GTX 260 and 4870.

Gtx 260 Memory Transfer Rate is around 112 Gbps and 4870 is around 115 Gbps...

It gets old after the 500th time replying to a nonsense thread that one cannot comprehend and is just bait for further criticism. What I would suggest, OP, is that you research a topic entirely before posting. If you have questions, present evidence to support what you say- perhaps an article somewhere and ask for clarification on an aspect you dont understand- not just "this is crap, i dont understand but this is crap".

Did you think for some reason that the OP's 900+ posts were all made here in video?
Come on people, think before you post!! LOL. Check yourselves before criticizing our other members here!

AT isn't filled with a bunch of snobs, is it? I'd like to think not.

Some of you are really mean, is this how you treat kids or regular people in general? I'm wondering if any of you have kids of your own, do you go around calling your kids "hey idiot or "You are a Fucking Moron"?
