I have a laptop with this piece of **** operating system loaded on it and every time I use it I want to throw the entire computer through a window. How's that for irony???

Worst part is I actually paid for this worthless OS. NEVER AGAIN!!! **** YOU MICROSOFT!!!

I'm going to ****can this steaming pile of ****ware and try out Linux. The software disc and license are going to become target practice.

Since this was moved from OT the profanity is no longer appropriate, so I removed it.

Whatever floats you're boat.

It's a pretty short learning curve to it, I like it better myself.

Other than the lack of a Start button, which was changed in 8.1, I enjoy Windows 8. What don't you like other than that?

I have 8.1 now as a few weeks ago put in my first SSD and decided to start fresh instead of copying everything over. I went with Windows 8.1 to try it out cause I was interested in a newer version, and it was recommended by a co-worker; I had been using Windows 7 since 2009 I believe.

So far I like it. *shrugs* Hitting the Windows key and typing to bring up applications or items in the Control Panel works very good, although I guess Windows 7 has that too. But I haven't found anything I dislike about it so far.

once you install something like classicshell, it's perfectly fine/usable and for the most part even a bit better than windows 7.

but a macbook and sick it up your posterior, that will make you walk normal. Win 8 is no different than Win7, its just lighter. If you missing the start menu, then just get an addon, I like startisback

Windows 10 will be free for you.

Is it Asus? They did some terrible thing to touchpad gestures that you should absolutely disable.

8.1 update 1 has come a looooong way since the horror or 8.0

Still annoying to support because I have to tell people to type the name of control panel items all the time. I'm familiar enough with the old applet names to know what to type. There are still some things you just can't do in the new Modern UI, so you have to find the old control panel applet to do it.

don't like that they didn't finish putting back at least an OK start menu, but overall it's not bad to use anymore and has enough interesting new tweaks that I can like it.

Since we're posting in the wrong forum today, I have a Windows 8.x question.

How can I make my calculator normal size instead of always maximized? I'd also like to dock it on the taskbar in the bottom left.

I just do Win + R then type calc.exe

IIRC, there is a calculator "app" that takes up the whole screen for no reason and the legacy calculator "program" that works exactly the way it should. They're two different programs. I also hate 8, it adds nothing but unnecessary complexity with its app bullshit.

Seriously, we all just have to deal. Looks like power users will be able to keep Metro (or whatever the f**k they are calling it today) at bay in Win 10 by extensive use of the right-click. Until then just shut up and install a retro Start Menu app on the dang thing, they are all over the place.

Thanks and I was able to pin it.

I guess I was using the app that took up the entire screen, now I've seen the light and have it pinned.

I should post questions in the wrong forum more often!

I hate the Start menu. I never used it in Win7. I only ever used win+r or just win+typing to run a program. I'm glad it's gone. Nested menus need to die.

I'm sad that you bunch of **REMOVED** whiny baby **REMOVED** caused Microsoft to bring it back to Windows 10. I'm slightly mollified by the fact that I will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

I love the Start Menu. I used it often in Win 7. As well as using the right-click on a regular basis. Nested menus need to live.

I'm happy that users are going to get a Start menu in Windows 10. Although I do feel they could implement it solely with a right-click, then power users who want the context menus can have them, and douchenozzles that don't want them wouldn't feel the need to lash out so much.
