I have 16 hours to sell my 350Z... How???

I'm just venting.

I preordered a 350Z. Now I've decided I don't want it... Here's the part that sucks: it arrived today, and I went to look at it on the showroom floor... well it's mine until tomorrow morning, but the dealer already has the price sticker on it - with a $10,000 markup.

So, if I don't get the car, the dealer automatically "makes" $10,000 off of me. I am SO pissed. But the truth is, I just don't want the thing... they're going to give me my deposit back, but I still just feel like I am getting screwed somehow...

Of course, the problem is - I have 16 hours to sell a car for $35,000. How???

After that, the dealer gets it, the price goes to $40,000 and they said their last 3 sold "within a day."

So you're going to sell a car that you don't want just so a dealership won't make any money on a markup all because you're indecisive?

I have no idea what you're talking about, but why don't you jsut buy it and then sell it in your own time? How much woud you be paying for it? They said their last 3 sold within a day? How many people just go out one day and buy a new car just like that? I call bluff on them.

That's what most people do. I did it. I saw a car I wanted online... I called the dealership... I went to the dealership... did the paper work thing... then left in my new car.
Plus with 350Zs they are a great car and apparently are hard to find... so when you do find one you go buy it right then. That's why they sold so easily.
Gotta love financing heh.

But seriously... why do you NOT want the 350Z?

So people these days don't shop around anymore? They don't play games with the dealer to get lower prices? hmm.. guess those days are gone eh?

Pulse8 - yes, you have it exactly. ;-)

It's not because I'm indecisive - I wanted to want it. But then I drove one, and honestly - in terms of power it just didn't hold a candle to my 300ZXTT. C'est la vie.

But yes, I'm just unbelievably pissed that I am going to give up my spot and magically the dealer is going to screw someone out of $10,000. That's ridiculous. If the markup was $2,000 or $4000 or something like that, I'd be significantly less annoyed... but the simple fact is, someone is going to walk into that dealership and pay a fortune for "my" car.

I don't doubt that they'll sell it (in fact, I'd swear I heard one of the salesmen telling someone about it on the phone) however, that's because they are a nissan dealer. That gives them significantly more walk-in traffic than say, my apartment parking lot.

Man why do you care if they make an extra 10 grand? A fool and his money are always soon parted.

Buy it and sell it on eBay? They seem to be in pretty high demand...

How exactly are they being screwed? They want to pay a premium so they can be "first on the block".

Why don't you just buy it on finance and then sell it yourself for the extra $10K?? Hell, that's easy money...

aphexII - yes, certainly. However, look, there are two scenarios here:

Scenario #1: I sell the car to someone for $35,000. I make $1000 and the buyer does pretty good
Sceanrio #2: I give up the car, the dealer sells it for $40,000. I make nothing, the buyer gets a car he could have saved $5000 on - which is not an insignificant amount of money.

Basically the only possible "winner" is the car dealer. That frustrates me. If I could sell the car to someone for EXACTLY WHAT I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR IT I would do that in a heartbeat. However, the dealer will not let me do that because they know they can sell it for more.

For instance, if you walked into the dealership with me tomorrow morning and said "I'll take Adam's car and pay exactly what he was going to pay for it" they would flatly refuse to give it to you.

Now if you buy it, aren't you gonna pay about 5% sales tax on it? You'd have to sell it for about $38,000 to break even on it.

wait a sec, you put down a deposit on a car you never drove before? WTF. And of course it doesn't have the power of your 300ZXTT(TWIN TURBO) tell them you want to transfer your deposit to a waiting list for the turbo version of these cars.(should be out by mid 2003).

Wait a minute here.

You don't want the car. But because the dealer *might* sell it for more than you would have to pay, you want it again? So you would buy the car, take all the risk, hope to find a buyer, wait for the buyer to get financing, go through the paperwork twice, just because the dealer *might* make some more money? For all you know, the dealer is feeding you a line of BS to keep you from walking away.

I heard once that car dealers don't always tell the truth.

My advice is to just let it go. Let the dealer worry about finding a buyer.

so..

So, if I don't get the car, the dealer automatically "makes" $10,000 off of me. I am SO pissed. But the truth is, I just don't want the thing

if u can find channel to sell your car for profit, go for it, I doubt u can..

But the truth is, I just don't want the thing... they're going to give me my deposit back, but I still just feel like I am getting screwed somehow...

so why u put deposit on it ?

if u if u can NOT find channel to sell your car for profit, and the dealer refund u the deposit, take your deposit..

still bitching ?

Aceman - I'm figuring in my cost after tax. That's another interesting dilemma, if I were to buy it and resell it - the final owner essentially gets socked with sales tax twice, even if the transactions all happen the same day.

Mr. Lebowski - of course I put down a deposit on a car I never drove before. That's why they call it a deposit. Otherwise if I actually WANTED the car, then I would be the poor schlub paying $10k over sticker for it. Any rumors of a faster 350Z are just that - rumors.

As for car dealerships lying, no. They would love to have one on the showroom floor. As a matter of fact, I walked over to their used car lot and asked what they'd give me for it and the guy was a little confused but said he'd give me MSRP. (which of course doesn't help me, as my cost is MSRP+tax...) But it was an amusing exercise in "trying to get back at a car dealer."

I actually have nothing against the dealer... I just think it's sad the way this is working out. At least at the other dealers with cars on the lot, they are marking them up with fake dealer required options - one had an "aftermarket CD Changer" installed for $2500, window tint for $600, aftermarket leather seats for $3000... you get the picture.

You're complaining that the high demand for the 350Z is giving you the opportunity to make a quick few grand? Like it's been said already, go to eBay, it's worth whatever people are willing to pay for it.

give me the car.

#1 you will help a poor college student

#2 you won't be subjecting anyone else to the overcharge.

#3 you will get a warm feeling in your heart that you have made someone very happy
