okay heres what you do... go geta coin counter/sorter for $8, a bunch of coin sleeves (50 for $2) start counting, its worth it. 4 gallons sounds like its going to be at least $400

edit: well at least $500 if its not all pennies

be sure to buy a mix 50 pack of rolls for pennies quarters dimes and nickels, and one 50 pack of penny rolls.

i raked in $130 with about 1/2 gallon worth of change

way more work than necessary. As others have noted, just find a bank that let's you dump the coins into a machine. Are there no commerce branches in DC?

my bank stopped using a counter for people to use since it cost them a lot to run it. so i wrap my own coins for them to handle.

The coinstar machines will let you get the full amount back if you take a gift card as an option instead of cash.

Taking them to the bank is a PITA. The last time I did that they made me write my account number on every single roll of change.

Why not take it to a bank with a free coin counting machine?

I use an internet bank. Thus, no brick and morter banks for me.

Higher APR > Bank branches.

Credit Union + ING FTW!

That's exactly what my bank has. I think they take 1-3%, but considering you could dump 10,000 pennies and have your money in less than 5 minutes save $3, it's worth it.

My bank has a coinstar type machine that bank members can use for free.

Also, I heard that even the regular coinstar machines will give you amazon.com etc.. gift cards back instead of cash without taking any % out.

i think it would be more than $100. I had just two handfuls of pennies and it was already over $5.

You'd be surprised. A couple of years ago, I took in a 5 gallon water cooler bottle not-quite-full of mixed change (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters -- a few years of emptying my pockets every evening) and it was more than a thousand bucks. Freakin' thing weighed more than 100 lbs. too!

I have a normal sized piggy bank that commonly gives me ~$100, I'm fairly sure 4 gallons can get you at least 500.

Go there. Dump coins in machine. Take slip to counter. Get money.

You don't need an account.

I had a ziplock-esque bag full of change and that netted me $25, so I don't see why you couldn't make a healthy lump of change (or dollars in your case) out of it.

I still think my Wal-Mart one will be the most effective .
