I don't see the doctor until Tuesday, but I'm 99.99% sure I have an inguinal hernia.

Hopefully, I won't have to have surgery. If I do, hopefully it won't knock me out of my routine for more than 6 weeks. If it does, hopefully I'll still be able to lift/exercise enough to climb next summer...

It's official - I have an inguinal hernia on my right side. I have an appointment with a surgeon on Thursday. Hopefully I can get the surgery scheduled ASAP.

I had one of these about 20 years ago. The surgery wasn't that bad, I was fortunate because a new mesh type liner was approved for use so instead of the standard at the time sew a bunch of muscles together to patch it which ultimately fails again I had the mesh stuff put in to patch it. Hurt like hell for about a day or two, get up and walk around as much as possible it hurts but ultimately makes you feel better. Then it was several weeks of odd pinches overall it was not a bad surgery.

Those meshes can seriously fuck you up if not done correctly.

I had an inguinal hernia fixed about 7 years ago. Super easy. They did an incision at the site and used a plastic mesh. Heal time was quick enough. Very painful for the first few days, but I ran a 5k a week after having it fixed - no problem except for some minor discomfort. Heal time is even faster if you get it done lapriscopically (sp?)

Nothing at all to worry about, really. Fast healing and very low rate of re-occurrence.

that's what I was hoping to hear. Based on previous surgical experience, I expect to be weight restricted 6 weeks, but hopefully after that I'll be cleared to hit the gym again at full capacity.
