Nothing to report yet - the surgery is 2pm Friday. The hernia is definitely larger than it was when I first noticed it.

Ugh... the idea of needing surgery cause a bit of tissue moves out of place is giving me the willies. Hernias can just "happen" for no good reason, right?

I play soccer and I think I might have a very minor case.
Or, it could be a sports hernia (not really a hernia, but a tear or strain in that area)
Not very painful, just a very minor dull ache the day after I play.

Might be groin strain.

I had a left inguinal hernia repair about 10 years ago. Used mesh.

A few years ago I started getting frequent, sharp pains in my groin near the mesh.

Wrote it off as nerve pain/damage for a while but it was pretty resilient.

Eventually got pretty intolerable. Had some scans done and each time the hernia repair was found to be in good shape, no visible damage, no nerves impeded.. nothing.

Doctor concluded it's groin pain, most likely a combination of forward pelvis tilt and bad posture. Even said this could have been what caused the hernia in the first place.

Does it hurt? Or did you only notice because of the bulge?

it aches a little, but probably not what I would call an outright hurt

I noticed the bulge maybe a week after I got back from a climbing trip. I guess I did it either during the climb, or right after I got back while I was in the gym. I probably noticed it pretty soon after it happened, but it took a few days before it occurred to me that it might be a hernia

Damn guys, give the man a chance to rest and edit his story. A NuclearNed tale isn't a quickie.

Plus if he had the surgery at 2 the meds probably haven't even worn off yet. Give him until monday at least.

does it hurt?

A guy cut through his abdominal wall to rearrange his guts and probably sew in a gut sling to keep everything in place. The abdominal wall is mostly muscle, layers and layers of muscle that, for the most part, we unconsciously use every minute of every day. Some people get lucky and have almost no pain, but most people would find sitting or even slightly moving anything below the shoulders quite painful unless they've been eating their pills. Even then, soreness that lasts weeks is fairly common.

Remember to walk around tomorrow. It will suck at first but it will definitely make you feel better sooner for some reason. Good luck

Posting from the wife's tablet, so forgive the typing

Surgery went real well. The day started kind of bad with the nurses having to fish around to get the iv started. One of the nurses was an old granny type, but it turns out she was a climber back in the day.

When they got me on the table, I must have passed out in the middle of our conversation. One moment we were chatting, the next I was trying to wake up in the recovery room.

The recovery room time was the worst part of all... a lot of pain and grogginess. I have 3 incisions, one in my belly button and one a couple of inches on either side. Throat was very sore from the tube. I guess I had a catheter because the first time I had to pee, it felt like fire coming out of my Johnson. A couple of loratabs later and I felt good enough to go home. I walked to my truck - no wheelchair

Had a good night, very surprised at how good I feel. I slept well, had a big appetite, and haven't taken any loratab since last night. Standing, sitting, or lying down are all almost pain free, but getting from one position to another can bring the big ouchie

Propped up now on my lazy boy watching STTNG until football starts

Glad to hear that your surgery worked out well. Yes, it's the transitions between positions that will constantly remind you of your surgery for the next 2-3 weeks. Still, I'm sure it feels very good to have it behind you! Hope your recovery is quick.

Glad it's working out.

Yeah, when anesthesia hits, it's just crazy. I know better nowadays, but you still feel fine right up until the seco----blink, blink...uuuuuughmmm,,,,whhhhhaaaaa,,,,,

Last time I was in for a surgery (remove ganglion cyst in wrist) it took FOUR tries to get an IV in my arm *eye twitch*. Failed in inner wrist, failed in inner mid forearm (poked through and hurt like hell), switched nurses, tried back of wrist, finally got it laying along pinky/ring finger hitting vein on top of hand. I hate needles.

I'm working on a kidney stone, damn it. But no point in going in yet since it hasn't reached "death-like crippling pain from an infected abscess infection of doom from a large rock" yet. My usual approach of gallons of cranberry juice at the first sign of symptoms has failed this time which has me worried...the pain is freaking excruciating and either there is a good amount of swelling, or maybe I have a hernia down here too. Because things be radiating and hurting elsewhere.

I had a repair back in 2002. plug/mesh. Can still feel the plug in the right spot. One incision, about 3 inches long. No tube, no catheter. I took it easy for a week, then went back to everything except exercise. I did keep ice on the incision for about 24 hours though, I thought it really helped.

No issues since and I regularly deadlift, squat and run.

My uncle has had double hernia since the 1960s. Has never had them removed. He is now 92 years old. I don't know how he does it.

I had a hernia a few years ago. Had it removed within a month after discovering it.
