I have a DVD problem

Hi,

I am building a web for a friend. He wants me to put a video up on the web page. The disc is a dvd it's not copy protected. The files are in .vob format but they are huge 122 megs or so. Too big to stream on the web I think and besides I am using front page which won't allow me to put a .vob up for some reason and besides that the webhost told me to convert it to a mpeg1 or mpeg2. There are also .ifo and .bup files on the disc. I tried some free tools that allow the .vob to be ripped down to mpeg1 or mpeg2 or mpeg4 / divix. Since the software I tried are free (one "ImTOO DVD Ripper SE" is unstable/unusable) and the other ("#1DVD Ripper SE" won't do the whole video it stops somewhere in the middle of the video...probrobly because it is free and they want to sell it)...
What is available that is free and to not time limited or limited in any other way that will let make a usable file such as mpeg1 or maybe a mpeg4 or divix??? Oh if I make it into a divix then wouldn't anyone that wants to view it need that codec on their computer?

Hope that DVD your trying to rip and post on the net aint copyrighted in anyway! (ie. unless it was made by yourself or your friend using your own original video footage... it will be ).

You may be setting yourself up for an expensive lawsuits against yourself on a number of counts (and possibly from more than one party and then each country......).....which could mean prison or mega fines or both.

Just because there is no protection on the DVD DOES NOT MEAN it is unprotected. Unless it is genuinly yours or your friends (having a paid for copy does not give you any rights to the artistic, copyright, trademark, PUBLIC BROADCAST etc regardless of how much/little you intend to use) I WOULD LEAVE WELL ALONE...... unless your a halfwit.

If its genuinly yours or your friends then one of you should know all about the original footage as they will have it anyway (wont they?) so no need to rip the disk as you can just use the original................

The dvd was profesionally made for my friend . There is no chance of lawsuits since he owns the rights to it. Thanx 4 ur concern anyway monzie. The problem I'm having is that the files are .vob and.bup and .ifo but I think the only one that is the actual video is a 121 meg .vob file..too bigggggggggggg i need to make it small enough so that it can be viewed in a resonable amount of time and streamed with a slow connection.

I am going to try some more free programs but I am going to wait until I build/modify my system with my new P4 2.8g 1M cahce cpu and my new asus P4P800SE 865pe chipset mobo.

Best thing to do is to convert it to WMV or DIVX. Plenty of tool for that.
