I have a fried Athlon 1.33 ...=-( some help needed

I was taking ym PC to a LAN party and my dubmass friend accidentally droped my PC when iwas not there. The HSF fell ff the CPU. I had no idea this happened When i turned on my PC nothing happeded except for the HDD and Power LEDs flashing profusly. After loking at if fr a few seconds i rush to turn off the power. I lookinside and confirned what my nose had told me. The HSF was completely off the CPU. I said alot of choice words and wanted to punch someone. Now that i am using my old faithfull P3 450, 128 MB, Voodoo3 i REALLY want that new processor. I have an A7V133, a $130 keychain ornament (Old 1.33GHz), 256 MB Corsair PC150 CAS2 memory and a geforce 2 GTS. I am going to buy a AthlonXP 1700+. Will it work with a Av7133 (KT133)?

XP's do work in A7V133 boards (KT133A chipset) but it depends on your board revision. This page is a little complicated but basically, depending on your revision you will have to use dip switches to configure the CPU instead of the BIOS (things could be worse).

If u hv PCB rev 1.04 to 1.05 w/ 1007 bios. It will works w/ XP. Only probs is u hv to run in jumpermode to remain stable.

If u hv the PCB rev 1.05. (note the trailing dot) w/ 1007 bios, XP will works even in jumperfree mode & remain stable.

Have your friend pay for half the cost of the new cpu, since it was his fault the processor fried. He should've told you he dropped the comp so you could've at least checked out the inside. :|

Yep - just download the 1007 BIOS and pop in the XP - Just did it myself.

Be wary of the A7V133 as only *some* work with the AthlonXP without serious problems. For me, the AthlonXP 1600+ in my A7V133 would give me file coprruptions, random reboots, BSOD's.. plain hell. But it worked fine when i plugged in my previous Athlon1Ghz..

So you have been warned! If it doesn't work, just throw your MB away and get yourself a cheap ass MB like me, the K7S5a!!!

BTW I had revision 1.05 (no .) A7V133. Glad i got rid of that VIA junk..

If u have PCB ver 1.05 (no .), u'll hv to run it in jumper mode in order to be stable. It will works w/ XP CPU. Tested on 1500+ & 1600+ myself.
