I have a NIC but no idea what brand....

Is there a generic driver out there that will allow me to use on any NIC?

No, not really. Is it an ISA or PCI card? What OS are you planning to use it in?

its a PCI card. I am not sure what OS i am going to use it on if i use it. the possible OS's I could use it on are win98, win2k, linux.

If it's PCI then the OS should autodetect it okay. It may not have drivers, but you should at least be able to see what the card is to find the drivers. You can also try looking at the chipset on the card; it should be printed on there what it is. Then just search around on someplace like google to find which cards use that chipset.

Well it is a plug and play nic, but its not that advanced. It just says generic network card when windows kicks in. I have tried to look at the chipset nothing jumps out at me. but i copuld try to search on what i see. its not a big deal. i will see what i can do thanks for the help.

If you can't figure it out though it's not a big problem you can get a new one probably for $15 ...

Looking at the NIC itself is the best way to identify it. If there is an FCC ID #, you can search the database to find the manufacturer but chances are it probably isn't going to be on there.. Another thing to do is see what the #'s on the NIC's controller chip are and if a logo is present.

Called NE2000.
Win still has it.

i tried looking for those drivers but can't find them in the win98 driver pool.where are they located or where can i dl them?
