Been up and down the line of new generation cards this last year, going from a reference 7970 which was to loud so i traded it for a core i5 notebook,to a msi tf3 7850 to a evga gtx670 ftw that stuttered to much so i went back to using my 7850.

Really considering purchasing a gtx660ti from zotac, its 7.53'' size insures a easy fit in a small oem case that gave me hell fitting in that 10'' gtx670 and being smaller then the 7.73'' long 7850 and having the power plugs on the top inside of the rear making it a bigger plus.

Guess i could overclock my 7850 as well but it can't hit pass 1050 core putting it shy of a 7870 which is still bested by the 660ti in newer games like FarCry3 and Crisis 3.

Don't recall what was in the Kaypro10, first real GPU was a TNT2 Ultra (I think my dad is still using this as an office PC), then to a 9700pro (mom still has this as her office PC) then 7900GTX (eventually sold). Then I got poor and ended up with this hand me down system with an 8800GTS 640MB that died (tried baking) and I replaced it with a 320MB version. Still using it to this day. That's my history of GPUs. Oh actually I got a used 9800pro couple years back to fix up an old Barton PC for DOS games. I got an AMD FX (57?) PC laying around now that I may move the parts into.

Somewhere along the line I did handle a Ti4600. Also a 4850 which is now crapping itself. My friend handed me the system for now, to fix it when he has money...but the GPU crashes just running windows so I cant even really "borrow" it.

I want a new computer, and I could buy something faster...but I have been so massively disappointed in the current market I can't bring myself to buy anything.

What happened to the epic launches and good values of the past? I can only hope we get another double speed boost at the same prices with the big 20nm node drop, its desperately needed, especially at the low end which hasn't moved since 2009.

Bought two 670s and found they were plenty for anything I could throw at them @1440p. Never got the itch to swap them out.

Bought a 7870 Ghz as well.

Do you guys at least sell your previous GPUs, or do you hoard them around the house?

I always find it odd when people say they've got top of the line GPUs just "sitting around". Knew a guy years ago who just happened to have a few 9800GTXs just sitting around...but wouldn't sell them or just give them to anyone.

They should have a version of that show hoarders for PC components

I happen to hoard older stuff, heck i have a xps 400 that only needs a gpu and i can't be bothered to find one to put into it,or to sell it as i sell on craigslist and its a major hassle.

Used to have a huge success rate selling lightly used hardware but out here in Arkansas,i could not sell a quarter for a dime as no one here really gives a rats ass about computer tech, only pc store in my town of 2.5k people closed and radio shack is up to no good as usual lol.

Guess my days of craigslist are over, time for ebay or simple forum trades i guess.

Where you from skipsneeky? I grew up around Ft. Smith, it is tough to find new tech in the part of the country stuck in the 60's.

Was not born here but moved actually to the town of Glenwood, about 10 miles from Amity mostly cause the wife wanted to be near family.

About tech oh yeah, the local radio shack i kid you not have on their shelves a old new in box amd 4550 i think it was, been there since i moved here about 8 months ago and i would bet its been there since 2007 still listed for like freaking $80 ha covered with dust, always a chuckle the few times i do visit that store.

Have to do all my shopping now on newegg or in a state of emergency drive the 40 or so miles to best buy or walmart if i need something.

I don't have a problem. Speaking in VoodooPower, I went from 10.5 VP to a mobile device that is not listed, probably ~20 VP, from there to a 9800 GT @ 45 VP until manned up and got a HD7950 at 214 VP. This Radeon card is my first non-NV card, but it OC's like a mental bengali tiger on stereoids so I guess the actual VP is somewhere close to 250 perhaps. Judging from my track record, and the fact that I can go weeks without even starting a game, I figure my next upgrade will happen when I can get 500 VP for 300 euro. In other words this 7950 is in it for the loooong haul...

However, this forum is not good for me. With all the fuzz about Crossfire and mining and what not I am kind of feeling the itch to get another one. Or two. Or three. You know, just to... try things out... (I probably should log off an never come back before I end up like lava!)

Ending up like me might not be such a bad thing. =) There isn't much I could complain about regarding my life. =P

True, but my woman would kill me if I tried to pull that "man-cave of an average enthusiast" trick on her. I need a bigger house, and a new woman, before my hoarding can commence.

lol, yeah. I do it cause I can. If my hobby got in the way of my life I wouldn't be doing it. Also, hoarding to me means a complete mess of junk that one can't possibly need or use. My cards are neatly put away and I use different ones all the time. I'm always testing out older cards in newer games to see how they fare. You would be amazed at how capable a GTX 285 still is, even an 8800 GTX for that matter.

A couple months ago I was doing some 6800 Ultra fiddling in Bioshock on a 1280x1024 screen with great results.

I actually am looking to make a custom case soon for my legacy voodoo 5 build . So many projects, so little time after job/wife/kid/350z =)

Actually I do not think I would be that amazed. I stuck with my 9800GT for several generations, remember? I could do Skyrim at 1080p on Ultra with 40 FPS when paired with a decent processor. It was Cryengine3 that finally pushed it into the obsolete category.

Will be betting BF4 will be the game that will make the final push for me to upgrade my 7850 to perhaps a 7970.

Have not been able to find a newer game period that has been worth playing for long, before being shelved and the urge for a upgrade actually is zero till BF4 comes out assuming its worthy.

p monks33: I'm enjoying this thread. I've gone through my share of video cards through the years. If they were all written down with the total cost my wife would have a fit until I would ask her to list all the shoes she has bought.

Let's just say after nearly 40 years of marriage she tolerates my computer obsession AND I try to complement her on the new pair of shoes!

Yes, I spend several PC's worth a month on my girlfriend, still she complains about my little hobby The trick is to order just before the weekend, take her on a romantic trip, then when the package arrive on Monday she does not care so much.

(Come to think of it computers and graphics cards are actually a very cheap hobby. I can easily spend a Titan a day when I go off piste skiing with a guide plus the party afterward... And then sailing...)

Yeah, compared to tracking my weekend car, or going out every weekend to social drink/eat with friends, spending 2-3k a year on PC parts isn't as large of an expense as most would think, plus no worries about DUI's and I don't feel like crap the next day.

Now that we have 3 grandchildren and my wife is constantly ordering something from Amazon etc. for them and we have more boxes delivered to the house by UPS or Fedex, it's not as hard to sneek a newegg box in the door without being questioned! It kind of "gets lost" in the shuffle.
