You know that additional little power connector that they have on the P4 boards?
Is it required to have your Power Supply hooked up to that? or is it just an optional connection.

In case it is required, Is there any way to get a my current Power Supply which doesnt have that little P4 connector, is there any little Converter they make that goes from say, a 4 pin normal to the P4 4 pin?

I am new to P4's and that was a question I had.

Thanks

As far as I know, although it will run without it, it is required for stability...
You can try an asus board, most of them provide a standard power connector, in case the psu doesn't support it.
Or you can work a simple mod out, these are regular voltages

Which motherboards run without it? I am talking about the ones that do have 12V connector on them

Just get a better pw supply with it on already. I do not know what you are running at now, but get a 400 or 450 like an enermax that is designed for the p4 system. It will help in the long run. . .

SO, basically you guys are saying....that iff.....
I want to buy a 1.8A and overclock it to 2.5ghz+ then I prolly should be using the extra connector?
hehe

DOH!

next question, I have a good ol 300W Antec Powersupply it has driven my Athlon 1900+ to 2100+@ 2.0v
its prolly pushin 80watts of power to the processor alone at that voltage.

Do you think I will really need to upgrade it to drive the P4 to 2.5ghz? cause I know P4's use a lot less watts.
anywayz, let me know....
Thanks

not to call you a liar but it depends on the boards, some will not even boot upwithout that 4 pin connector connected.

Some board come with a EZ-Plug,it's basicaly a 4 pin connector just like a HD,most Asus boards have those,If I were you GenTarkin I would try your current power supply & see if it works before going out & buying a new one.

Just like LazyBastard linked to you can get an adaptor if the board that you get requires that connector to function.

I know for a fact, the Abit BG7 needs the aux power connector to even POST.

Having said that, I have one running on an old Antec 300W power supply with a connector similar to the one SVC is selling and it's 100% stable, runs 24/7 at full load.

I would just get the connector and give it a try.
