Then I will search for sites that give specific details on the subject, and use quotes (and cite them properly). Do I still need to cite wiki since I am not taking anything from it?

If you can find the information elsewhere, then yes, cite the other source.

Be very careful if you are submitting to a website like turnitin.com. The site takes your essay and compares it to thousands of other essays, articles on the internet (including wikipedia), etc. It is a new method for catching people just blatantly ripping off other's work.

Usually for my college essays, i end up using wikipedia and webpages for 99% of my research, and in the end throw in a few facts from actual notable sources just to fullfill the source requirement.
Since this is such a broad topic, you can easily fill up three pages on factors leading up to the great depression, followed by what actually happened (1 page), and the resulting effects (sociological effects, societal impacts, major shifts, etc.), and conclude with how these factors parallel present day trends and how we should all change our ways in order to not repeat the past. Use both present day and historical examples, domestic and international, tieing together the political climate, economic, as well as its cultural ramifications.

Well my actual topic is "the great depression and the effects on white middle-class Americans". The essay must stay within the 1928-1938 timeframe.

How does one cite a quote from a website? For example:
"blahblahblah." (what do I put here?) Do I put the author of the site or the site itself?

Of course.

Here's my current thesis, it's horrible, I know...
"The white middle-class Americans experienced many labor difficulties during the Great Depression, affecting their family?s status and ability to provide. "

Think this is good enough for such an essay? Or should I revise it? I would like to incorporate how WWI and the roaring twenties contributed to the great depression.

If you add WWI then you can get 10 pages, easily. Especially about how the economy slowed down after the war-time boom...

I doubt if I can add WWI, but that would've be nice if I could've. I completed 7 pages last night so I'm just about done. The New Deal is full of information. Still no clue on how to properly site quotes that originated from websites. Do I just add quotations and only list the sources in the works cited page (books you add the last name + page #)? And, any ideas on how to submit to turnitin.com?

I guess you fail at reading.

Finished. Still not sure how to cite internet sources when quoting them. Maybe use the web address? For example:
?However, it was the F.A.P. which provided the widest reach, creating over 5,000 jobs for artists and producing over 225,000 works of art for the American people.? (www.wpamurals.com)

If you're going to write about the Great Depression, you may want to do a bunch of searches on monetary policy and the Gold Standard

Just some food for thought.

I've finished. Does anyone know how to properly cite quotes from web sites? MLA sites give no information on this other than (last name page), yet there are no pages in the web sites...

I know ten pages isn't a lot to many of you, but this is my first semester of college, and as we all know, highschool is a joke in terms of actual education. Luckily, the essay is based on the Great Depression, and as you probably guessed, it's for my History class. I should be able to just rehash most of the information found at wikipedia and do well (he doesn't seem to grade hard on written work). My plan is to tackle it tonight and hopefully only have one or two pages to finish off tomorrow morning. Then I will look for any grammatical errors. Any tips on how to fill the pages up quickly? I think I'll first summarize WWI and the roaring twenties, then explain how they led up to the great depression, then describe the great depression itself and its effects on the middle-class Americans. Or should I just focus on the great depression and its effects on the middle-class citizens? (which is what the essay is suppose to be mainly about)

Also, anyone submit a paper to turnitin.com? I have no clue how to and my professor hasn't responded to my email (but he does have office hours tomorrow at 6PM). Didn't notice anything on BlackBoard either about this particular site. Any info on this will be very much appreciated.

I think this is my first thread topic outside of the FS forum, so be gentle.

LAWL. I have a 10 page paper due I havent started on Roman and Greek heroic ideals on class and gender! Dont worry my friend - 10 pagers will be a breeze by the end of it.

Sounds like you got a logical structure laid out, dont cite wikipedia though - that is really lame. Plus professors hate that - it's a very uncredible and unpeerreviewd source -

use JSTOR for history stuff - www.jstor.org - your school should have a code for it - you can get it from library. or if you are on campus network just log on.

good luck!
