I currently own a Samsung Series 7 Gamer, and I've owned a lot of laptops, and this one is probably the best I've owned. The layout, ergonomics, display, etc - it is all perfect for me. The display on this laptop is a 400 nit full HD 1080p 17" display and it is probably the best display I have ever seen on a laptop in my entire life. It looks better than my TV...

Even the on-board audio sounds great. However, I have an opportunity to upgrade for free at work - because my current laptop is 2 years old. My upgrade opportunity is to upgrade to an Asus ROG G750JH - which is no slouch.

The Samsung NP700G7C:

Intel core_i7 Processor 2.3GHz 3610QM
16 GB RAM
1.5TB Hard Drive
17.3-Inch Screen, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M 2048memory
Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
2x 750Gig 7200 rpm Hard Drives (non-raid) with an 80gig SSD to speed bootup
16 GB SO-DIMM RAM

I have an opportunity to upgrade to an Asus ROG G750JH-DB71

Intel Core i7-4700HQ 2.4GHz (Turbo 3.4GHz) Haswell
24 GB DDR3; HD Version
128GB SSD * 2 + 1TB 5400 RPM HDD
17.3-Inch Screen, Nvidia GTX780M 4GB GDDR5
Windows 8, 3.5-hour battery life

My last Asus product was a TF300 transformer tablet and it wasn't built very well and only lasted like 6 months. Are the Asus laptops good to go?

Am I going to regret leaving the Samsung display behind? Is it even worthwhile to upgrade from an I7 3610QM to a 4700HQ and from a GTX 675m to a 780m?

Okay, so how was it better? And when you say you tested both, you tested the exact 2 models we're talking about, or just models of each brand?

Oh for heaven sakes :smack:. They were 2 DIFFERENT models . The Asus was faster, more ports, etc. I dont know models or anything.

That's not helpful at all, and serves only to confuse people. Nothing of what you said can be actually interpreted as "Asus is better". Yes, it's your opinion, but if you can't back up your opinion with any reasoning or facts whatsoever, then why bother sharing your opinion in the first place?

@ Spurst

If that's a free upgrade, I'd definitely go for it. The 120GB SSD is a nice upgrade over the 80GB one, allowing you to fit a couple of games on it. The GTX 780M is a decent upgrade over the GTX675M. The processor is also a little faster, about +10%. But by far the biggest plus is that the Asus laptop has a 120hz panel - the Samsung one is restricted to the standard 60hz refresh rate. EDIT: Also worth mentioning is the age of your current laptop. 2 years can be quite a long time for a laptop and especially its battery... A whole new laptop is obviously going to have a better life expectancy going forward

NewYorksFinest, you really aren't helping at all. I tried being polite and asking direct questions, but I think I just have to say it - your opinion on 2 completely different models offers ZERO help to this situation. I appreciate the attempt, but you're adding confusion. :-(

Let me put it this way: "what is better, a 2011 Audi R8 or a 2014 Dodge SRT Viper"
Your reply: "Dodge is better than Audi."
Why? Because you previously used an Audi Quattro and a Dodge Ram 1500.

Do you see how much that invalidates your opinion?

The Samsung Series 7 Gamer and the Asus ROG G750 are both top of the line premier devices, and unless you've owned one, the other, or both, you really can't offer a validated opinion. These are both ~$2500 laptops, and before I dump $2500, I'm hoping for feedback.

If you own another laptop with the same hardware, then that also partially helps.

With Anandtech being as large as it is, I'm positive that its users have owned both of these laptops, and I'm hoping to get some feedback from those users, or users who have used this chipset, video card, display, etc.

Question: is that Asus laptop the only upgrade option?
Or could you pick another brand such as a Lenovo, Acer, or Apple laptop, for example?

Where do you work that they hand out free high-end gaming laptops? And are they hiring?

But seriously, I think the upgrade comes down to what you do with the PC. If it's primarily for work, the display, keyboard, trackpad, etc. are more important than the amount of GPU horsepower it has.

It looks like the G750JH-DB71 has a 120Hz display, which means that it's a TN. IMHO that means that you shouldn't commit to it until you've seen it in person. It could be a decent TN, but chances are that its worse than what you have because decent TN panels are very rare.

The Asus is the only choice at this point. I had a budget of $2500, and could only order it from Best Buy Business (NOT Bestbuy.com), since we have a corporate account.

It will be primarily used for work, and gaming during my personal time.
