My landlord came over tonight, and told me they are sold the house we rent half of. I never even knew it was on the market, there was no sign or anything. Now I have to go find a place that we can afford with in 30 days, and still save money for a house. What sucks is this place is a three bedroom duplex for only $600.00 a month including everything, and I know we will not find that again. Well, I am done, just needed to vent, thank you for listening. And if you did not want to listen, too bad, I made you read this anyway.

Update: Well I found a new apartment today, and we move in on November 1st. It is beautiful, and I love it. So that is a big load off my mind. This new apartment is alot nicer than the one we have now, and its so bright and cheery, I am actually looking forward to moving.

Sucks for you. You would have thought they'd mention that the place was for sale. Nice landlord. :disgust:

What a crappy landlord! I think he should help you for your search on your new place. Gonna be hard to top the deal you had.

I really empathize with you Coleen. I am moving in 2 weeks because my stupid landlord raised my rent 26%. 11 years in the same building down the drain.

I hope that you'll find something and that this will turn out for the best.

The worst part is I know he does not have our security, he sold the house because they are so broke. So I will probably end up taking him to court to get that back.

403Forbidden: I did have a lease, it ran out and I have lived here for over a year since it did. And I don't think you want to talk about wise decisions, been chased down by any angry fathers lately?

I am really sorry to hear that GirlFriday. Some Landlords can be complete *ssholes. In the place where I live, I sign a year by year lease. Part of the agreement each year is that the rent will go up $10 per month. I usually have to write a letter explaining my inability(?) to fork out an extra $10 a month, and arrange to pay half of that. It's just the injustice of them charging extra each year, times 50 buildings in each complex, times 12 apartments in each building. It's like, Why do they need all that extra money?!?!:|

And that is why they call them SlumLords. Have you tried contacting the purchaser to see if you could rent the unit from them for the next ## months? Even if the new purchaser has plans for the place, they won't start work on it the day after settlement. Good luck!

WJE: The people that bought it are planning on moving in on the 15th of November, so that is why we need to be out.

Ausm: I am trying to save money to rent a house, that is why this apartment was so perfect for the price. We hope to buy within a year.

DF: I missed your post before. I am sorry to hear that, I know you have gone around with them before over this. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Thanks guys! I am sure I will find something better, everything happens for a reason. It was just such a shock!

Find out what he sold for and casually mention what a pitty you didn't know it was for sale cause you were thinking of offering (double that price). Good luck on finding a nice cheep place with broadband.

Sorry about the eviction, GirlFriday.

However, you needn't worry too much about receiving your security deposit back since you know there's some money flowing to your landlord once the sale is final (unless he's up to his eyeballs in mortgage and selling below value, which doesn't seem likely). Check your state (www.state.ga.us for Georgia, for instance -- good place to start for your state) to find out how long he has to pay the deposit back and then act immediately if you don't receive it. Also, make sure you receive a forwarding address so you know how to serve any court papers, should the need arise. There should be a procedure available from the state for having your deposit returned. Do a search for landlord tenant law online, and you can probably find some good resources.
