The constant text messages of sales updates. The BS of quotas, being contacted on my days off, the BS corporate politics. My morale is low, I don't care about the company and its goals.

I want to quit, but I have a family to support.

What will make you happier without quitting?

Are all of these things you mentioned part of your job?

There's nothing wrong with looking for another job while currently employed. Hell, there's nothing wrong with going to other interviews while currently employed. If you need to find something better then so be it, find something better.

McDonalds is hiring.
But seriously, of all my jobs I have ever had, McDonalds was my first and my favorite. It was simple and easy.

I almost walked out on Tuesday. It was the sort of day when nobody could manage to get anything right, if they even tried to do their jobs at all, and I was left to clean up the mess. I can't afford to leave, though

Here's something to keep your hopes up: at least you have an effing job. I've been whoring myself out for about 1.5 months and haven't heard back from anything yet. Everytime you feel down, remember someone doesn't even have a steady pay cheque.

That

No, it gives you all the motivation you need...one can still hate their job and have low morale.

Now is one of the worst times ever to be looking for a new job. You may be kissing this jobs butt soon if things get worse out there. I'd be kissing some arse just to stay employed right now.

That's a crock of shit. Working at a job that makes you feel awful and never stops milking you has a negative impact on one's family. There is a lot more involved with supporting a family than bringing a paycheck home.

OP, do what you need to do to support both your family and yourself. Start being very proactive about looking for another job that you are satisfied with. The only real losers in these situations are the ones that just sit around and do nothing about it.

every time i see these "i hate my job" threads i feel sorry for people. i love my job! sometimes i hate getting up for the grind, but overall id not work anywhere else. great pay, benefits, lots of creative freedom and cant get any more independent without being the owner. sorry to hear you hate yours.

I love my generation.. I think we're collectively way more educated and reponsible than the baby-boomers..

But I will admit there is one huge problem with us:

We all fucking think we're fucking awesome! I mean.. pretty much all of us know computers well enough.. most of us have college degrees.. And every fucking one of us thinks he is entitled to a 9 to 5 job in an air-conditioned office with good pay, never getting yelled at, no accountability, no overtime, etc..

But look at it this way.. You need to be worth more to a company to get more pay. It's a free market.. Hate your job? then quit. Good luck finding a new one in this economy - especially after putting a company on your resume for less than a year.

Eh, I doubt that would work for some people. I keep going just because of the hope for a family to support.

I had a bit of an unstable job situation for a while. I resigned from a job in January 2005, for personal reasons. I didn't find another one until August of that year -- roughly seven months without a paycheck wasn't fun, but I did have help - I had it better than many would. I keep that job - which I really, really enjoyed for only about 7 months before I was offered a similar job that had more stable hours and MUCH better pay. I took the new job, and things were great for about a year. It was extremely stressful, but overall the job was good. After that year, our director resigned, and a supervisor they hired after that basically made the job a living hell - not only for me, but for almost everybody in the office. I wrote my resignation letter less than two weeks after he was hired, and I can't even begin to count the number of times I came close to handing it in. About a year later, early this past spring, I got a job offer in a different department of the same agency. A great boss makes *all* the difference. I now really enjoy my job -- I get to do a lot of what I like to do. Sometimes it's worth it to put up with a crappy situation... I would never have gotten the job I have now had I resigned from my last job.
