I just completed a test of a fan to replace my SUNON KD1212PMB1-6A.
Here are the specs on the SUNON:
108 CFM @ 3,100 rpm
45 dBA @ 3,100 rpm
6.8 watts, 0.57 Amp @ 12VDC
326 grams in weight
Just out of curiosity, I had to try this one:
DELTA EFB1212SHE (Super High Output)
141.96 CFM @ 3700 RPM
52.5 dBA @ 3700 RPM
9.60 watts, 0.80 Amp @ 12VDC
290 grams
Now -- here's the clincher. Through software control, I can drop the speed to 900 rpm above the idle setting for the SUNON, and the perceptible noise is the same -- almost nothing in my closed, Pax-Mated case with foam motherboard duct. The idle CPU temperature is 2F lower. I can set the software to run at maximum speed limited to 90% of full-speed, and noise is about the same as the other fan at full speed. But the idle throughput is about 20 CFM more, and the "load" throughput is about 20 CFM more.
The air pressure (13.21 mm H20) is so great that the exhaust fans spin 300 rpms faster than their previous "set" speed.
AND . . . A-a-a-nNND!! . . . the chipset heatsink temperature has dropped another 3F, and the load CPU temperature has dropped 1 or 2 F . It seems there is a limit to any decreases in the CPU heatsink thermal resistance with more cubic feet (air) per minute. With this type of throughput, an XP-120's thermal resistance drops to a minimum 0.16 C/W.
And there is more "good news" -- the weight of this fan is about 35 grams lighter than the other one. Ummm HUMmmmm!
