I have some Eyefinity questions

Eyefinity could be the most awesome thing to come out in a long time (for me anyway). I have three 24" monitors right now, and I've love to get six. Right now I'm running a 4870x2 for my main display and a 4670 for my two side displays. I have some questions, and I don't know if anyone knows or can answer them.

My questions are:

1) Will a single 5870 card support these three monitors as one screen in portrait mode for gaming (3600x1920). - Three wide and one tall.
2) Will SLIed 5870s be able to support six monitors?
3) Will SLIed 5870s be able to render their SLIed output to a subset of the total set of monitors?
4) Does anyone know of any good triple monitor benchmarks for the 5870 (I'm specifically thinking WoW and BF2 here)

Thanks for reading.

1. yes, but most games won't support it according to hardocp. At least if I understood that part.

1. yes will do vertical, but dont know of any game that would support it. what game are you trying to run?
2. no eyefiniti and crossfire, but the next 5870 will have 6 mini displayport so it will be a 1 card solution.
3. unlikely for now
4. no idea.

Mostly World of Warcraft and Battlefield 2. Some Civilization 4, SimCity 4, and Supreme Commander will be thrown in for good measure.

Why would you be stacking them vertically though? For an FPS like BF2, you'd just be seeing a ton of sky and ground. For strategy games like supcom and civ4, you'd probably be tilting your head up and down constantly since you wouldn't be able to see the whole screen at once.

Well, they'd be in portrait mode. Three monitors wide, one monitor tall for 3600x1920.

True, but to put things in perspective, take your current monitor (if it's 1920x1200 or 1920x1080) and put it in portrait mode. Then, ignoring the limited left/right visibility, open up a document or a game (if possible). Spend 5-10 minutes playing around, and by the end of it you'll probably be sick of tilting your head up and down to see what's above and below you.

Ideally, I'd take about five or six 1920x1200 monitors setup side-by-side in portrait mode, and I'd give the overall setup a slight arc to help imitate peripheral vision. Too bad it would be so expensive.

Everyone is confused because in your OP you said:

You meant to say 3x1 Portrait mode. You can do pretty much any combination of screens with Eyefinity: 3x1, 3x2, 1x3, 2x3, all monitors in portrait mode, etc, etc.

Go watch HardOCP's video review of the Eyefinity, but note that he is using the 5870, and NOT a 5770 as he keeps saying in the video.

There are tags on the video search bar that will let you jump to areas you're most interested in... so you may be most interested at 18:11 in the video where he talks specifically about Portrait mode and shows what that looks like.

Heh, I use 2x1920x1200 monitors in side-by-side portrait mode (2400x1920) at work. Everyone, including the IT staff, has stopped by at some point to comment on it or to try it out. They all seem to like it.

I absolutely love it for work.
