I have to question Newegg

Over the last 18 months or so Newegg to me has taken advantage of its customers. When the Egg started the number 1 reason folks shop there was because they usually gave you the best price. But more often than not they have become more expensive than their competitors. Yes they give great service, but so does companies like Zip, Gameve, and Mwave to name a few. I have been watching the prices of many different items over the last 15 months or so just to compare and they often are more expensive. It may seem like a flap but when you check the cost of certain things and they are consistently 15-30 bucks more this ought not to be so. Case in point, the FX55 Newegg $911, $4 shipping, But Zip is $880 free shipping 2nd day none the less. How about Gameve, $870 with $7 shipping. I followed them also during the initial release of the Antec Neo. Newegg was selling that power supply at about $25-30 more than a couple of other places. Which brings me to another complaint, that when items get a lot play they have a tendancy to raise the price. This company has gotten great support, but seems to have taken that support for granted. I didn't make this post because I have any problems with them, not one at all. But as informed consumers, which we pride ourselves on here, some other companies seem to be working harder than Newegg to get support with good policies and prices. I have a problem with companies when they go off just their reputation and start to take for granted their customers. Afterall its the customers who build the company, not the other way around.

maybe that was the plan from the beginning; start cheap, build a huge customer base, then slowly raise prices.
btw. i've noticed they have been doing lots of advertising lately in PC magazines

Some, but what is happening is that many just throw out Newegg as the standard, but other companies are just as good and cheaper. Zip which was Google has been around for quite awhile as well as Mwave, those two companies have maintained consistent pricing and service policies.

Strange, I've been using ZZF more too, Newegg's prices aren't as competitive as they were.

When the prices were the same or close, I gave NE the business, not with the differences I'm currently seeing though...

" I have a problem with companies when they go off just their reputation and start to take for granted their customers."

It ain't up to the company to make sure you get the best deal. That's YOUR problem! If this topic had been titled, "Newegg No Longer Has The Best Prices", you'd already have gotten a bunch of yawns. I don't think they ever really had the best prices, which is why I've rarely bought from them.

If you want to blame anybody for anything, blame the Newegg fanbois for throwing the name around as the be all end all place to buy parts.

Newegg's great prices is what put them on the map.

That isn't taking advantage of customers; it's using customer loyalty to allow an increase in price while not losing sales. It's smart business. How many new businesses have you seen open up and give ridiculously good deals to lure customers to the brand? It happens all the time. It's not sinful, shady, or satanic.

Now, on the other hand if you're a customer who's aware of this, and brand loyalty means nothing to you (and it shouldn't), then it's your duty to price shop. I'm glad you raised these points though, because I'm at the point where if I need anything I go to newegg. I don't even bother looking anywhere else. I guess NE sucked me in, but if I was looking for something really expensive I guess I'd price shop.

Hmmm... unless the price difference was significant I'd just pick everything up at Newegg based on past experiences with their service.

I've ALWAYS found better prices elsewhere. Never made a purchase from them until a few months ago for that reason.

While everything you said was true, here's a point I think many miss. Newegg's buying power should be tops. With the volume of product they move, its no doubt they get a better price from the manufactures. So they are clearly able to have a much larger profit margin. Now I know they have expanded, but I am quite sure their expansion has helped increase their buying power and not affected their growing profit margin. And I am not saying they are not a good company, but the commitment to offering competitive pricing has slipped quite a bit.

It should be noted that ZipZoomFly was Never actually owned by Google. They were just named Googlegear.

Also.. For the seagate 200GB Sata drive I am looking at purchasing right now..newegg is cheaper than mwave and zipzoomfly. Gameve doesn't even carry the 200GB.

On a different note.. I have noticed price increases for hot selling items.

I've noticed their prices going up as well and some of my busniess has been shifting to other resellers.

But if the price difference is less than 5% or so, I usually stick with Newegg because they've treated me right.

Maybe it isn't that newegg's prices are higher by comparison, maybe everyone else has just made their prices lower to compete with them...

if I need something fast I go with newegg (standard shipping gets to me in 2 days) if I don't care about time I usually find the place with the cheapest price

I am willing to pay couple extra dollars knowing that my order will ship quickly, will be packaged properly, and I will receive exactly what I ordered. Their Customer Service has always been top notch, and they do speak English which is becoming a kind of rarity these days.

Newegg has never had the absolute best prices...at least not in my memory of them. But I've bought from the "best price" companies before, and had it take 3 weeks to get an item. BSed around on the phone, unasnwered emails, etc. In the end, when I'm buying sh|t for work I just go to newegg first because their customer service has been great and their prices are competitive. If they don't have the item I'm looking for, I check out mwave, excaliberpc, SVC and ZZF.

Often times the price difference between newegg and the bottom dollar guy is like $2...and its a total fvcking crapshoot if things will workout with that other guy. With newegg...I just KNOW its going to work out. Thats why.

When I buy stuff at home I shop around more though. Its not so big a deal if things get delayed or screwed up there. But I still stay away from most companies besides those mentioned above.

Thats why I buy from New Egg. The $2 is worth the convienence of knowing that you will actually get the product.
