I hope my team can forgive me for what I've done.

I just sent them a meeting series invite for daily 15 minute standups. I'm sorry team, please take these cookies and eat your sorrows away.

Did I mention I don't work in software development?

based on the feedback from this thread, I predict this plan is going to go GREAT.

If you wasted my time like that, I'd leave your cold, dead, lifeless body in the bathroom...with your head stuffed into the nastiest shitter I could find.

Daily status meetings = micromanagement in disguise.

We have once a month, same with mgr calls and we all work from home. All you have to do to keep people working is set deadlines.

If me talking to my team for 15 minutes a day is considered micromanagement than so be it.

You'd really fuck up my scheduling ability thats for sure. So I can't schedule a productive 9am-10am meeting because I have a 9:45 every day? gtfo

A 30 min meeting once or twice a week would be better IMO. If its urgent then walk over and talk to people\have a dept slack\hangouts\hipchat\etc

Whats the status of your project?
Pretty much the same fucking thing it was yesterday. If I run into a road block I'll tell you.

We started these earlier this year, I don't mind them so much because they're squeezing the group that was generally holding things up. Their manager has lauded the meetings and how things are going smoothly now. Had to make sure I used my inside voice when I said "that's because you're useless as a manager, you're like a baby that has no object permanence".
But yeah, so long as you crack down and make sure the meeting stays at 15m or less, it's not the worst thing in the world.

Daily scrums are good for sprints since there is only so mich leeway and you want to jump on problems asap.

First mistake...you shouldn’t be talking much at all during a stand up. Point is for your team members to let everyone know what they are working on and who they may need help from that day.

The reality is that you shouldn’t have to have these meetings with ideal employees. The reality is there are very few “ideal” employees out there (I know everyone in this thread is the epitome of an ideal employee as they procrastinate away on a dead forum). Since we are generally dealing with far from perfect employees, this is a brief way to communicate our work (helps with procrastination) and set expectations on each other’s time (I need your help today). I always get a kick that it is always my least productive employees who think that 15 mins a day is disastrous to their productivity.

And this is exactly why micromanage like you exist. You ignore the fact that others have work to do because YOU don't have enough work to do.

They have work to do because I assign them
work. I need to know what's on their plate so I can assign them work. I can't find out what's on their plate unless they talk to me. They currently don't talk to me, so we're having a 15 minute standup so they do.

this is the only time I would talk some of these people per day.

I told them to give this a 3 month trial and if everyone hates it when we'll try something else.
