All the QQ about her age and playing with guns is just another example of the Pussification of America. This little girl has a bigger pair then you. If our forefathers knew what sissies we had grown into they would be rolling over in our graves.

Kids accidentally shooting other kids/adults is a result of lack of training and experience. They see guys in cartoons/movies getting shot and then getting right back up and don't realize the lethality of a firearm.

I grew up with BB guns and shot my first gun(.410 shotgun) at about 9, rifle at 12, handgun at 15. I then got certified marksman for a 9mm in ROTC.

that's one hell of an assumption you just made. you're also assuming being taught gun safety equates to gun safety being practiced.

then again, i'm assuming she's just like every other 11 year old i've ever seen.

Being taught gun safety properly, along with proper parenting DOES equate to gun safety being practiced.

I doubt if that girl got in trouble she would get a "time out" or other such nonsense from her parents.

Yeah, see guns were something that I was never exposed to as a kid, but the older I get the more interesting I find them... maybe when I'm older and have more disposable income I'll get into shooting... I could totally see myself in 40 years, retired, sitting on my roof in rural somewhere, with a beer and a high powered rifle, blowing squirrels to bits... haha.

side note for the rednecks out there... anyone know what squirrel tastes like?

I don't agree, she's 11. When I was 11 my moms boyfriend taught me gun safety and would take take me shooting in the hills. I understood guns and how to properly use them, but when we got to the hills I became an 11 year old with a Uzi. And being 11 with an Uzi I turned into John Rambo. I know VERY few 11 year old's who I'd trust with an Ar-15, hell even a Pellet gun. Even if I taught them proper gun safety before handing it over.

Are there 11 year olds out there who can grasp it? Sure, but I bet a lot would be like I was and want to pretend to be Rambo, my mind just wasn't developed enough to understand. I just wanted to shoot shit up.

She Failed the test..

part of dis-assembly is to remove the guards and the strap.

The Guard is very hard to remove, that's where most of the time is spent for most.

Yeah the fact that she's 11 kinda blows my mind... I mean I'm 23 and I've never even held a real gun before... not that I oppose the right to have/own/shoot one, guess I was just raised slightly different...

I'm 23 and live in Canada, but know how to dissemble/clean/reassemble most guns. Just one of those life skills you should learn.

Here is where parenting comes in. If you were not capable or mature enough at age 11 to handle that type of weapon, then it shouldn't be given to you - this does not mean that every 11 year old is the same.

I was also using scroll saws, table saws, routers, and all sorts of power tools by the time I was 11 that could easily seriously injure someone, but I was mature enough at that age to work with them, did woodworking in 4-H, etc.

Kids develop maturity and responsability at different ages, this is where the parents come in to moderate what type of activities a particular child is participating in. But that does not mean you don't teach about gun safety from an early age. It may mean you don't have them shooting as soon, but still.

irrational fear of guns FTL!

I think its great parenting. instead of forbidding your child soemthing, you actually involve them in it, let them use it and learn about it. meanwhile, the kid who is forbidden to even look at it is so curious and enamored about goes and shoots himself or his his friend or sibling while playing with it because he has no knowledge of it or respect for it.

In PA, you can go hunting at 12, but you need to be accompanied by an adult.

hey man, no irrational fear of guns here... I've just lived in cities my whole life and didn't have any friends who were from more rural, gun-friendly area until college. I mean its not like my dad could teach me to shoot cans in our tiny ass back yard... and since you mentioned PA, one of my good friends from engineering school is from there, and I've had a blast on his familys property camping and shooting random crap with his fairly large arsenal of shotguns rifles and handguns...

like they say, guns dont kill people; desperate, uneducated, and generally demented people kill people.

She's 11. That's hardly a "small child". There was a time in this country when almost every 7 or 8 year old had a .22 rifle for rabbits and squirrels and there were no widespread problems from it. She is clearly well instructed and able to handle the weapon safely. There's no reason to call it "bad parenting" unless the child is handling the weapon in an unsafe manner, which is just not the case here.

Playing Devil's Advocate here...

This next generation of kids has been sheltered and babied to the point of near helplessness and parented with prozac and ritalin.

Maybe guns and driving permissions should just be given to kids with real parents?

This is one girl that wont shoot herself or her friends. Everyone should be REQUIRED to be proficient at handling, cleaning, and firing a weapon before they are allowed to own one. If you know how to use it and handle it around people then you deserve it.

I had an old roommate point and shuck a 12 gauge shotgun in my face after he had just bought it because he wanted to show it to me. I slowly stepped to the side and after he lowered the weapon hit him in the face.

I don't care how old she is. Good parent / bad parent, I don't know but he's doing something right in teaching his kids something about gun safety.

There are only 2 people on the face of this planet that can be blamed for that. You call them Mom and Dad.

If this girl is capable of doing this, she has been taught the ins and outs of firearms and going by her technique of not putting her finger on the trigger at all and not pointing the gun at anyone during the performance, she seems to know about gun safety.
It's amazing that people still apply their experiences and think that they are the ones that are normal and that anyone that does something outside of that is wrong.

I'll give some of you a news flash. LOTS of kids use firearms every year. They aren't shooting each other they are out hunting. Sure you'll have incidents, but you have incidents in any activity, be it racing, or even peewee baseball.

My dad introduced me to guns when I was 13 - same with my brothers. We all like it, and girls do mature faster. She seems to like it, so I don't see the problem.
