Medicare supplemental insurance. Medicare is pretty much useless without it.

Yes, I know about how stupid lottery tickets are. But at least I understand how that works.

I've had medicare for over a year, and I still have no idea how it works. Even though I've had all sorts of helpful people try and explain it. I do know that I can't use it to visit a MD, without lots of extra money, and no one - not even the MD's office can tell me how much extra money. I'm still under 65 which evidently makes a huge difference.

I've run out of insulin and I need another prescription. Last time this happened, I bought the insulins (Lantus and NovoLog) from some on-line Canadian pharmacy. It's quite expensive, but I need it.It does cost extra if you don't have a prescription.

If anyone has a good online source of information about Medicare, please let me know. Or a source for cheap insulin without a prescription.

I'm a ways off from being old enough for medicare, but my understanding is that those insurance plans are just for copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.... I remember Medicare part D plans are what you'd need to get if you had a lot of prescription costs...where you may not need to spend the extra cash on the front-end if you're not on a lot of drugs.

Medicare underwent a lot of changes in the past year and will continue to evolve as they try to clean up the loopholes that create opportunities for fraud. Of course, I'm sure Obamacare may open the door for more Medicare downsizing, but who knows how that'll pan out.

I didn't think you could get Medicare at all until you're 65. Did you mean "Medicaid"?

Disabled people under 65 are eligible for Medicare after 2 or 3 years on SSD (Disability)

Sounds like Obamacare was made for you, sign up and somebody else pays to keep you alive.

You need to see a doctor, you need to get prescriptions for insulin if you need and blood sugar monitoring strips and a meter (usually the meter is free).

Not doing so you risk losing your vision, your feet, and/or dying.

A good portion of the "healthcare" costs could be the trip to the ER where you die after they do all they can to keep you alive, but you are actually pretty much dead already. This doesn't count as "winning".
