ok tried it

at first it made this crazy beeping, almost beeping to a song or something. when i just unplug the HDD it makes a long drawn out beep.

still no video =(

If i understand correctly, you;re saying that an AMD based HDD would not be compatible with a p4 based system? sorry all these terms are pretty overwhelming, im new to this.

the majority of the time..no ..but if certain devices are removed before the transplant the success rate is improved..using XP you can also do a repair/Recovery Console fix but that isn't a good idea if you wish to place the drive back into its original home and expect it to be problem-free..as always your mileage may vary

What chipset is your motherboard using? Is your video card AGP or PCI? The hard drive isn't the issues, if you aren't even getting video at boot up. What kind of power supply do you have, and do you have the square 4 pin 12v connector plugged into the motherboard?

Don't confuse him talking about the Hard drive right now. The computer isn't POSTing. That will have nothing to do with a hard drive.

Listen to everyone who suggests you unplug EVERYTHING except the video card and ram. Basically, to get a computer to turn on, you only need the motherboard, the processor, RAM, and a video card. Pull out any other cards you've installed, the hard drive, CD Rom, etc (do leave the power supply plugged in of course).

Try to turn on the computer with JUST those things installed, and tell us what happens. If it beeps, tell us how often.

he's already said it
only problem i had was the heastink, since its an LGA775 i had to push down the little bolts and one of them went a little hard... dunno maybe not a big deal.
then
ok so try to boot it up, nothing.. i wait 20-30 seconds, it just shuts down.
which has already been said about a chip with an integrated heatshield/spreader..you won't know if you cracked a core if you can't visibly eyeball it..so ..test mobo/chip in another setup..haven't had a single motherboard post without a functioning(even had one that was cracked and caused errors galore but it posted) cpu..g'day ..i.e. trying to keep the damage to a minimum as even if posts with a damaged cpu it can corrupt his working pulled from known working system ..hard drive..

Just how old is the old video card? If it's too old it might not work in your new motherboard that probably has an AGP 8x slot. Just a thought. Also as someone else already posted, did you plug in the 4-Pin Power plug from the power supply into the motherboard?

Could some of the pins be bent or broken on the mb? I hear that they are very fragile so remove the cpu to see if the pins are straight and undamaged...

Pull everything including the video card... then tell us if it beeps. If it doesnt beep then fine... put the video back in. When you start it up this time... hold the insert key to try to start it up. Also, before you do anything else... clear the cmos by pulling the battery or using the jumper.

I reset the CMOS before hooking everything up.

And yes I already tried, just CPU+mem = long drawn beep.

Do you have the EUropean/US Voltage switch on the power supply set correctly? Just curious? If so did you try swapping power supplies with another system? I would try to rule that out before I went elsewhere.
