First, I had a Galaxy S4 that lasted forever. Then I had a Nexus 5X that only lasted a year and was bricked during an upgrade to Android O, but I enjoyed the hell out of that phone.
Now I have a Pixel 1 XL that I also love, but it is having various hardware problems such as the rare spontaneous reboot, the 'flashlight' causes it to reboot (even when briefly turned on by accident), it can only charge in 5-second intervals (but will eventually charge fully), etc.
Pretty soon this will become my backup phone and I will need to get something new. I like the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone, I like the aspect ratio of the Pixel XL and the clean stock android look and feel. I just don't know if I should get another expensive google phone because I've had 2 lemons in a row (and if I must do that, maybe I will just get a used Pixel 2XL and try to not care as much). All the other devices in my family are various galaxy models that have never had any hardware issues.
I have the $11.00/mo insurance on this phone through Verizon, the replacement deductible is $200. If I do that, I of course won't get to keep the XL as a backup phone, but is that one pathway to an upgrade, or do you think it's more likely to be replaced by the same model?
