I just got a MISDEMEANOR for urinating in public?

I was driving home from quite a distance (30 min. away) when I stopped by a local fast food joint to pick up a combo meal and extra large drink. After realizing I hadn't peed in a long time I desperately needed to relieve myself, and seeing nothing around me I stopped on the side of the road and did my business.

A cop happened to pass by and stopped, obviously thinking I was drunk (I didn't drink at all this night) and wrote me up a ticket. I first thought it'd be just a fine or something retarded, but after he drove off I saw that it was a misdemeanor, and I'm pretty pissed now.

What's the worst that could happen? I've heard misdemeanors stay on your record and all, and for something this stupid, this late at night (the cop was the only car on the road I saw for several minutes), I'm not happy about this. The cop didn't even see me piss, he saw me get into my car and assumed he would nab me for a DUI the whole time (it was 1am on a Friday night). When he flashed his lights at me I freaked out so I just said I was coming back from my friend's place and I really needed to piss.

I have to show up on court next month, and I really don't want this on my record. I've never even gotten a traffic ticket, the worst violation I've been in is a street sweeping ticket.

meh...you'll be ok with the UIP, I've known ppl who have gotten them...it won't hurt you....next time you have to pull over and pee, try the "Check the Tire" technique. take a knee at a tire, and let fly, if anyone stops tell them you thought you had a flat tire...

Well I'm almost sure I'm not going to get jailtime for something this minor. In fact I want it demoted to a citation or something similar if it is at all possible. I have a good degree and job so I'm not worried too much about this but I still don't want it to be on my record.

I can't offer any advise, but I've peed in publid dozens of times. Just figured that I'd let you know that other people do it before the righteous crowd comes in.

It will be embarassing when you get called up in court though, so be mentally prepared. Definitely try fighting it though. To me, "in public" means that other people are around. Look up the exact definition of the law.

When you say record do you mean license, as in, you might get points or something on your license which stay on there for 3 years?

When you get to court, you will be accused of exposing yourself. If even one white kindergarten child saw you pee, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You may even have to register as a sex offender, and participate in sexual addiction classes.

I'm Taiwanese. Nobody saw me pee, not even the police officer. He saw some wet soil near my car, and that was it. I just don't want any employer looking up my record and seeing a misdemeanor, even though I know it's nothing.

Tell them you were going to piss but decided against it. Or as someone else stated, look up the exact definition, tell them is an emergency and nothing was open.

You are lucky. I know a guy who got charged with indecent exposure for peeing outside. He was lucky that his family had money and he could get a good lawyer.

He got off with a fine and doing public service.

Talk to a lawyer to get an idea where you are.

I guess cus you weren't arrested. But what you said will be used against you, so you should have remained silent. The cop had nothing on you until you opened your mouth.

Anyways, misdeanor is ridiculous in your context. It's not like you did it in the wide ****** open.

I hope you get a reasonable judge. If not, appeal your case.

wow, that sux donkey balls. I mean, yeah I pee in bushes/trees all the dang time. That guy probably just looking for something to do at that time, or maybe they need to make their quota of tickets or something. I would really be interested exactly what the law is too, seems like if nobody had to endure the terrible experience of seeing your dick then where is the problem here? The only place I have ever made sure NOT to pee in public is at Mardi Gras, thats the one thing they will bust you for (IE: underage drinking, drugs, nudity 100% fine, but no peeing! -- its so the stupid bars can charge you money just to use the toilet!).
