so i took a nice hike in the woods and was driving home when i felt something crawling on my arm.

i held my elbow up, figuring it was an ant or mosquito but NO IT WAS A TICK

it was still walking around so i stopped along the road and quickly grabbed a kleenex and grabbed the tick off my arm

but as i did, i felt a sting - so i think it got me when i got it

am i going to die of lyme disease?

i kept it in a sealed baggie to be studied by scientists... it's still crawling around in there.

yes, you are going to die.

Seriously though, there has been plenty of news stories in the last 2 months about the increase in the numbers of ticks and the potential for disease transmission. Wear insect repellent with DEET.

You are probably okay if it just started its bite and didn't get bloated.

Lyme is transferred by the deer tick, which is black in color.

Dog ticks or the lone star tick will be more red in color.

You don't have anything to worry about. If you found it crawling, it was just looking for the perfect spot to make a meal of you... Best take a look around when you have a chance and make sure you didn't pick up any that you didn't feel crawling.

Usually, a tick has to be attached for between one and two days in order to get infected with Lyme disease. Other diseases, it varies between 2 and 100 hours.

Don't know where you live, but around where I live if you got into the ticks, you should be more worried about chiggers. Trust me, those are some miserable things - I got about 30 of them on me two weeks ago spraying Roundup and I'm still not healed up yet....

yeah it's still flat. and actually looks like it might be a wood tick instead of a deer tick, but i'm no tick expert.

the issue is that it is geographically variable. Where do you live? That determines risk factor.

whoa seriously!? did she have to pull them all out?
Not all of them, but some definitely were attached tightly and started their bites. Didn't count how many started their bites, but there were at least 5. I'll have to have her count again how many bites she got.

Three species, one deer, there rest were dog and lone star ticks.

Now you get to check your 'crevices'. Ticks like to dig in in warm soft places. Hope you have some *really* good friends.

A tissue! We are going to have to talk about this Mr. Manahan...

Lyme Disease isn't all that bad, it can be treated with Antibiotics.

That's a good thing, because I don't think that ATOT could survive losing one of it's greatest minds like brianmanahan!
