As some of you may know, I worked at Whole Foods Market. I was a supervisor on the Front End Team for the last 2 years. I've been employed there for a total of four years. I started at 16 and am now 20 going into my junior year at college.
I was terminated today after being informed that I rang up an employee and gave him a discount even though it was his mother purchasing the goods. They said I was expected to know this and said they contacted regional HR and said I was to be terminated.
Our store's HR person has a wife who also works in my department. She told me after I rung them up that it is not allowed. I acknowledged her and said I won't do it again. I believe she then told her husband and he decided to take it upon himself to further his career by stomping out everyone who doesn't remember every single policy in the store.
I walked into work today and was escorted to the back and told that I would be let go. I walked into the office and the dick (HR guy) had the gall to say hello to me and act like nothing was the matter. I was told that I am a supervisor and should know the rules better and that they decided I needed to be let go. I left feeling extremely ashamed and embarrased that my 4 years of almost perfect attendence and complete devotion to work ended with giving somebody a discount after the company changed the rules.
I don't know what to do now. Working is all I've ever done when I'm home and not in school. By cutting me 3 weeks early, they have effectively cost me over $1000 that I need for rent and tuition this year. I have yet to call my boss (front end team leader) who has recently been promoted to assistant store team leader. She was the manager last night when this all occured. I don't hope to get my job back, but I hope to clear my name at the store.
I don't know what I hoped to accomplish by posting this , but maybe I can stop worrying so much about what I'm going to do for this year.
cliff notes : I made a mistake and broke a rule at work. They immediately fired me for it. I am now out a significant portion of tuition and rent for this year. First time being fired. It sucks.
