I've never worked anywhere with an actual monetary Christmas bonus, but everyone at my current job seems to be fond of bringing in baked goods and giving some to everyone. I can think of worse bonuses than cookies and brownies.

I'm hoping my "bonus" will be a job offer. Had a great interview Monday morning. Got a call back Monday afternoon from my recruiter saying they loved me and want to do a follow up interview. That is scheduled for tomorrow.

I got a rock.

This. Work for one of largest, most profitable Hospital Groups in the country who saw record profits this year, our reward:

Less staff, No annual 3% raise for 2nd year in a row, insurance premiums doubled, no Christmas party this year hospital wide, no department Christmas party.

Wow, I feel pretty good. Every employee in the company I work for got a check for 10% of our annual wage. I work for a small company, less than 50 people. We had record profits this year, company gave a decent chunk of it back to the employees.

 Sounds like a nice company to work for.

I get my Christmas bonus 24 times a year on the 15th and the last day of every month.

It was a $25 giftcard to Amazon.

Considering 2-3 weeks ago I worked an extra 26 hours in one week (working over 40 hours is very uncommon), and that I make a lot more than $25/hr, it almost feels like a slap in the face.

But I guess it's better than nothing so I can't complain too much! Too bad I purchased something for $26 on Amazon this past Monday heh, I could have used the card instead!

Did you get OT for the extra hours worked?

Ouch.

My dad has been averaging over 50 hours per week this year and 70 hours per week the last 3 months. He was rewarded with a $1,000 bonus and 4 extra hours of PTO. Meanwhile, the company's CEO is the highest paid in America.

3 weeks ago, my dad discovered a blood vessel had burst in his head leaving him with a subdural hematoma and had to go into surgery to drain it, then another surgery to repair the vessel.

Moral of the story: NEVER work yourself to death over a job. You are a disposable asset to them; a resource to be tapped and used up; an expense they would gladly shed at the drop of a hat.

EDIT:

Dad is currently recovering from surgery and should make a full recovery. Luckily no brain damage or seizures and his personality is intact.

I hope your dad is OK.

I agree 100%. Every time I think about moving on to make more money, I realize that I'll probably work much longer hours and still not make what I do here if you consider the benefits and perks package I get. Remember folks, your family is more important than your job. Don't kill yourself for a job because a lot of people have done that and found out that in the end, it didn't save them from being let go.

I always get a $25 gift card to one of our grocery stores. (I work for a grocery wholesaler.)

Bonus lol.

This year we were informed that the whole IT staff (not just helpdesk, but admins too) will be forced to wear uniforms next year (which is of course the most ridiculous thing to spend money on when we are in the middle of a budget crisis). We also found out that staff is likely to be cut and 0% raises for the next 2 years. Good times.

stick it out things are sure to turn around! :awe:

Markets have been shit the past while, so I only got a tiny bonus and an even tinier donation to a charity on my behalf. That's fine though, hope to make it up at year-end.

If you don't know this by the end of your first internship then no pity from me!

I have 5 grand written into a worthless document called an "employment agreement", disclaimed with "actual amount based on "stockholder meetings", company profits, revenue before taxes, etc". We fully expect nothing at all despite company having a better than average year revenue and growthwise, meeting all our targets, and overall becoming stronger.

One place I worked - a dept head would bring in rum-soaked rum balls. Like huge bowls full of them swimming in rum. I actually caught a buzz. That was a great day.

We have 2% COLA for everyone, health insurance will stay the same, no one being cut or lay off. I work with a great boss and most of the group are decent folks. All are well here.

I agree with posters that said don't work yourself to death. No one in his/her deathbed would say "I wish I work more hours". As long as you make enough money to take care of you and family and no debt and be happy, then you are good.

Why did I ever get into an IT career, we are not appreciated, we don't get sweet bonuses. We just get to hide in the server rooms quietly crying to eachother on the internet about how crappy everything is.
