I hope your dad is OK.

I agree 100%. Every time I think about moving on to make more money, I realize that I'll probably work much longer hours and still not make what I do here if you consider the benefits and perks package I get. Remember folks, your family is more important than your job. Don't kill yourself for a job because a lot of people have done that and found out that in the end, it didn't save them from being let go.

The higher I move up the less I work and the more I make...

It was a $25 giftcard to Amazon.

Considering 2-3 weeks ago I worked an extra 26 hours in one week (working over 40 hours is very uncommon), and that I make a lot more than $25/hr, it almost feels like a slap in the face.

But I guess it's better than nothing so I can't complain too much! Too bad I purchased something for $26 on Amazon this past Monday heh, I could have used the card instead!

Consider yourself lucky. All I got is 'nada'

I'm hoping my "bonus" will be a job offer. Had a great interview Monday morning. Got a call back Monday afternoon from my recruiter saying they loved me and want to do a follow up interview. That is scheduled for tomorrow.

Nice. I had an interview Monday. It went all right until I got to the HR person. Her question to me was, "so, what would you expect to be doing here". I thought it was kind of an odd question, but i answered it. Her next response was, "No, I mean what challenges do you see yourself being a part of"? Ok, I wasn't sure how to answer that...I mean, it was for a continuation engineering position, so I just spewed what I knew some challenges of that position would be. She did not seem happy with my response....

Unfortunately for me, I picked a bad field where management jobs are very scarce but on the bright side, high-paid consultant jobs are plentiful. The problem with those is more work and more stress and I doubt I'd make enough to completely cover the comp package I get here.

Why did I ever get into an IT career, we are not appreciated, we don't get sweet bonuses. We just get to hide in the server rooms quietly crying to eachother on the internet about how crappy everything is.

LOL. This person speaks the truth.

I got a $50 gift card. Used it for some gas and a vidya game.

Wife got $500 plus a $100 gift card. That was nice. But she's woefully underpaid working for a small, growing company while I am paid fairly but I work for a nonprofit.

I gave out my company bonuses yesterday. It was a total of about $60,000 split between my twenty management and admin staff. Each individual's amount was based on job responsibilities and performance. Not as much as I have done in the past, but it seemed to be gratefully received.

I have been at this job since 1994. Small company. I have gotten a raise every 14 months, and a good 4 digit bonus every year.

My employees make between $12 and $25 an hour (if they're not on salary) and we gave everyone $1000+. Rule of thumb is to not give less than an extra paycheck.

If you're going to give someone an icecream cone or $25 gift card you might as well give them nothing. I got those kinds of gifts when I made $4.25 an hour and was 16 y.o. mopping floors. It's downright insulting.

I've never worked anywhere with an actual monetary Christmas bonus, but everyone at my current job seems to be fond of bringing in baked goods and giving some to everyone. I can think of worse bonuses than cookies and brownies.

That sounds like a nice place to work

Not only did we not get our cost of living increase for the 2nd year in a row, our transportation subsidy was cut in half as well. Merry christmas!

I got mine last week in the form of $1800 in out of pocket doctor bills I have to pay because our health insurance plan is such a joke.

I'll bump again soon... I'm guessing I'll get similar treatment. perhaps $50 though : D

Really? Just go to Costco with $20 and get all the baked good you want. Call me ungrateful but that sounds like a shitty "bonus."

I have.
A bonus isnt really a bonus unless its significant, like one weeks pay.
Handing out small bills or tiny gift cards can be considered an insult, especially if you refer to it as a christmas bonus.

If you just wanna be nice and give your employees a treat, fine. Pass around bags of cookies or carmel corn, or something that shows you put some fuckin thought or effort into it. Dont call it a bonus though.

A small gift card is generally more inconvenient than its worth. Cash would be better. I got a 5 dollar Starbucks card the other day. Thats like one hot cocoa and I hate going to Starbucks. A 5 dollar bill would have been considerably more useful.

The last place I worked, everyone brought in baked goods too. We also had a Christmas bingo where you could win various gift cards to Target, Starbucks, and WaWa. Oh, and I got a $25 itunes card many years ago that I've yet to use. I should really get around to selling it.
My supervisor was super nice though - he'd give us $100 out of his own personal money.

But yeah, we all saw them as gifts, not bonuses.

If you give your employees a weeks pay bonus or 2 weeks pay bonus that's 2-4%. It's not killing an employer to do that. Good years we give about 50% more.

When the economy tanked (2008?) I can't remember if we gave bonuses. I'm pretty sure we still did to the hourly guys but we might not have since I think everyone was just happy to have a job at that point. We fired lots of people and cut everyone's salary from the top down by 20%. If you're still working for a company that's barely afloat you might have to take what you can get.

We might be discussing semantics though. I hope nobody was expecting a bonus AND a Christmas bonus. We only do it once a year and it's at the end of the year. Then there's parties, birthdays, bottles of wine, turkeys, etc that we do the rest of the year.

I have a different style of management than some though. I don't believe in hiring slaves. I actually hire people and I treat them as such.

I usually get a $25 GC to the nearby grocery store. I have never been in a company that has done much more than that.

Sucks, but when we have 700 people here, of which 400+ are entry level, I suppose they have a hard time being fair with everyone.
