I just got my "Christmas Bonus" from my company...

$500 but most of us were dissapointed. It was 25% more than last year which was an awful year. We have been told many times this year that the year is the best ever and should receive great bonuses. In comparison, the bonus 4 years ago was $1,500.

The paycheck is what you get for doing your job well, which we still do.

The bonus is what you get for going the extra mile. For example, getting a 90% CLI instead of the required 70% or w/e.

Last year at my previous company everyone got a 16GB iPad 3g. BUT just prior they had split IT off into it's own subsidiary company. So since we didn't work for the parent company anymore, we couldn't have any. The thing is they had ALREADY purchased them for us, so there's a closet somewhere full of new iPads just collecting dust.

And the end users that got them wondered why we were pissed when they asked us for support... My only bonus that year was them paying out half of my unused vacation. Got the other half when I quit. lol

Oh and whenever we did get some piddly gift card as a bonus, accounting would totally screw up the taxes. They would always forget and then toss the tax in at the last minute. Then the company would feel bad and "give" us another $25 to cover the taxes, but instead of adding the $25 to be taxed, some genius would add it to the original amount and tax that again. So we would get a $100 gift card but be taxed for $225 until they straightened it out.

We met/exceeded our company goals, driven mostly by my studio (mine as in I work in it, not mine as in I run it). Got a 3.75% raise, and got around 3.5 percent as bonus cash in November. And my stock reward from last year just vested last week. I'm also changing positions and should see another 10-12% raise before April.

Can't complain really.

Nothing this year. Started 3 months ago and would of needed to be here 6 months ago to be able to get a pro-rated bonus. Next year I'll be able to get a full bonus that's a percent of my salary with a formula on earnings.

If I would of been eligible for a full bonus this year it'd of been about $4,500 before taxes.

that sucks... almost as much as me. No raise, actually a 15% pay cut division-wide about 4 years ago. No bonuses, except a handful of times in the last 10 years and it's less than $1.5k, before taxes. The company made $99.8 billion in revenue last year (not a retailer).

Did they ever make up the 15% cut?

I got my Christmas Bonus early from my employer; 9 days off.

"Take them whenever you want. But, we're going to take those 9 days out of your paycheck. And we're going to keep the money until the 4th year of the current contract. We'll give you a little bit of the money. Then in the 5th and final year we'll give the rest back to you. But we're going to tax you on the money we give you. Why? Because you work for New York State."

Not complaining per se, but just pointing out that it feels like I got the Jelly of the Month club premier membership.

Layoffs have nothing to do with performance, when the company decides to do mass layoffs it comes from the very high upper management who don't even know geographicly where they are or what they do. They randomly pick people, basically. Union rules don't even mean anything either at this point. It's already happened a bunch of times. So far they're going mostly after management though, but I'm sure they'll eventually hit workers. Nothing we can do about it. Does not matter how good or bad your performance is.

There's a difference between a Christmas bonus and performance compensation. At some jobs it's expected that a significant percent of the compensation will come in the form of a bonus that depends on individual, group, and company performance.
