I just got my Dell 8600

Got it on friday and in the process of playing games and running the benchmark, will post shortly. I seem to be able to play MOHAA, and Battlefield with no promblems with 2 AA and 4 AF, with settings in both games maxed out. the only thing that i dislike is the screen size, when playing games, since it's a widescreen, it has to stretch out the game...very fast though, and battery life is good with web viewing, word processing, and other "not far from desktop" applications the battery life is approx. 4 hours with just one battery and the 1.6 P-M. I will post more real soon...

Sounds great! What is the screen resolution on your 8600?

I like widescreens because it's nice being able to see two documents/spreadsheets/text editors side by side. Unfortunately, widescreen notebooks are a bit too $$$ and too heavy for me

saw the article on AT about mobile 9600 vs 5650, kinda sucks the 8600 doesn't come with the mobile 9600 :disgust:

ya this laptop isn't the main gaming rig, just a portable to maybe play a lil games now and then (MOHAA),(BF1942),(Warcraft) all play very well IMO.

I went for the WXGA+ wich is like 1650x1280 i think.

Do you HAVE to run games stretched? That's unacceptable to me. I'd want to run them with black bars on the sides.

No, there is an option in Display Properties which lets you switch between the two settings.

WXGA would be 1280x800. 1680 x 1050 would be WSXGA+, if thats what you mean.

Is that option still there if you install Nvidia's newest reference drivers? Or is that something Dell had to build in to the drivers?

its there with nvidias refrence drivers....i use it all the time on my notebook with the 45.23 drivers from nvidia
