Dell 2405WFP for 70 GBP.

https://www.cnet.com/uk/products/dell-ultrasharp-2405fpw-lcd-monitor-24-2405fpw/review/

Whilst it is only 120 more pixels vs my low end ACER i have replaced.. it's image quality is insanely higher..

The only one available online is going for 428 GBP.. https://ithardwaregroup.co.uk/part-...200-flat-panel-lcd-dvi-cable-refurbished.html

Massive screen size upgrade, massive image quality upgrade, i will see if i can overclock the screen though because it's not quite as responsive as my old ACER.

Screen i just bought is on the left, it's a PVA screen.

"As desktop LCD monitors become more prevalent, the idea of a massive display becomes more appealing. Although a 24-inch CRT display would overwhelm most desks, a 24-inch widescreen LCD monitor might fit in. The Dell UltraSharp 2405 ($1,199 direct) display is just such an animal."

That's probably a reasonable deal but be careful when looking at prices of really old stuff. Frequently you'll run into situations where something new (and far superior) can be had for less money than resellers want for old stuff. There are times when it makes sense to pay inflated prices for old components like when you're replacing a piece of a legacy system that must have identical replacements (particularly in a corporate environment). Those resellers are hoping for people with very specific needs. For most users, paying 428 GBP for that monitor would be insane when newer displays are available for far less.

That said, congratulations on the new display and well done getting 16:10.

My 2408WFP looks much better than the cheap $100 ASUS 20" I have for doing dual-screen testing at work.

These old panels had great image quality to go with their $500+ list price.

I love Dell's 16:10 Ultrasharp monitors. I have a U2412M and a 2209WA. Not the latest and greatest, but still good color accuracy, full swivel for portrait mode use, and 16:10 aspect ratio (increasingly rare).

Yeah, Dell UltraSharp is a nice screen, had one (used) 17" 4:3 monitor, was nice, sharp, and bright.

So some feedback.

Monitor is TERRIBLE for anything that involves twitch reactions or accurate mouse movement, there is some delay and the pixel response is very bad, this is vs my 60hz 5ms TN panel, even at lower resolution pushing solid 75hz this DELL is miles behind the ACER.

However anything that is played with a controller, or RTS.. single player games, the DELL is superior in image quality.

Video, general computer use, web browsing is awesome on it, the ACER though absolutely destroys it in pure speed and responsiveness, it's a sad fact that 75hz on the DELL looks exactly like 60hz on the DELL.

75hz on the ACER is noticeably smoother and showing more frames, there is clearly some limitation to the DELL, it seems also clear that the DELL is aimed at people with quality in mind.. not really gamers.

Awesome screen, but not playing CS on it.. that's for sure.

Also a small issue, screen burn in is apparent with the model i have.

It's a business monitor, not a "gaming" monitor. More importantly it's a 10+ year old business monitor. Response times have come a long ways in that time.

"I just get one hell of a deal" is probably what your seller said. That thing will have its backlight CFLs die in no time.

I'm still using my 2407WFP from 2006. I think I paid over $700 for it, but I think I'd be happy to get $100 for it. That thing gets freaking hot (good in winter, bad in summer) and I want to upgrade to one or two S2716DG monitors at some point.

Yeah after some real usage i'm taking it back and getting my money back, the heat output, the low responsiveness of the screen.. it's enough for me to forget it's great quality and go back to the ACER.
