I just got put in my financial place. I have to come to terms with it.

That's in DC. Why not try places like Fairfax. When my GF lived there, she was paying about $800/mo for a large basement apartment that she shared with one other person.

I already live in Falls Church (closer to DC than Fairfax) and the commute is still kind of annoying for me. I don't require a lot of space either.

Where do you have to commute to? The Courthouse area has some nice apartments, great restaurants, and is 2 stops away from DC. You can get a decent single or efficiency for 1700 in Arlington.

welcome to DC... I live in the burbs due to the retarded amount of $ people want to rent/buy

I pay 1500 a month for my 3 story townhouse and its rather nice outside of dc in Maryland

what part of MD?

wife and I are looking to buy probably early next year. we're in rockville now like borderline bethesda. we really don't want to move too far from here. location is perfect. there are actually some 2 story condo's right down the street that aren't too high in price we are thinking of possibly looking at, however we aren't sure if we want to live in a condo. we've been living in a 1br condo rented from a landlord for about 4 years now.

$1,700 for a fucking room?!

NYC isn't even that bad. I have a studio for $1,000 - 15 min from Manhattan. Fuck that noise!

You should be able to get a studio or 1 BR for $1700 in other places in NW. Look further north along Conn. Ave NW.

I live/work in DC, so PM me if you need any advice.

But yeah, rent here is hell.

lulz, I pay less $$ for rent on a 2 story and I'm 5 minutes from the city and can walk to the metro. SELL THAT PLACE AND MOVE UP HERE. 2 hour drive < 1 extra floor.

Unless you have some high chance of landing a unique/interesting job in DC...is it really worth the price of admission? It's not like it has some highly desired climate and geography like California and other parts of the west coast.

$1700 for a freaking room...that's no way to live. Hell...I'd rather rent a super 8 hotel room/extended stay for $60 a night. You get your own bathroom, free parking, and daily housekeeping.

Lowest unemployment rate in the country, and houses that actually appreciate in value... gotta pay if you wanna play.

well as with any other major city, there is a limited # of spots to live around the middle of everything.

it is just pointless for people to brag/moan about how much they pay for their home/land in the middle of nowhere. there is a reason it is so cheap - because nobody wants to live there.

but i do agree $1700 for a ROOM is pretty ridiculous, and not worth it to me. but if i was single and making over $100k/yr, and wanted the city life that the nice parts of DC provides, i wouldn't hesitate to do it.
