Up until 2 weeks ago, I worked loads of overtime at work to make extra pocket money. I like to buy stupid things on the internet and its always nice to have a couple bucks laying around.

That is until the scheduling department at my work pulled some stupid stuff. I've been one of their best allies and they decided to deny moving a couple vacation days as it their right. I also have the right to not help them any more, so I won't.

I've always liked working with cell phones and so I decided to slowly ease into the cell phone repair business. I bought a couple iPhone screens and put up some ads on Craigslist. Today I got my first reply but all he needed done was have his phone flashed back to stock. Easy peasy! My first job took less than 30 minutes and I made $25. My goal is to have a job or two per night and hopefully make an extra $200-$500 per month depending on the job.

First one was $40 shipped for a Retina display. There are some real cheap ones out there and I don't want to have to replace a screen twice because I cheaped out. If all works out well, I'll be buying in bulk from that supplier and hopefully get a better deal.

I can walk you through it

For $50
I did it a couple of years ago but had to flash it back for a replacement. Now the instructions are old and the files are old and I don't want to brick my phone.

What happens when you scratch up their phone or accidentally break it?

I stand around bestbuys geeksquad line and offer to fix peoples stuff for half the price and same warranty. The line is usually so packed and full of pissed off people that I'm like an angel to them. I use my friends computer shop with permission as proof that I'm not some wackjob or schmuck with no liability working in a basement there to steal their stuff.

I'm getting rich doing this part time.

Replace it. This is the cost of doing business and a lot of people find it refreshing to find someone willing to do that without beating around the bush or giving bureaucratic store policies to avoid fixing.

So, as a small business owner, are you filing your quarterly taxes and have your business registered with the state with all the necessary filings and fees?

That's what kept me from starting up my own business after I read Alabama has a mandatory minimum tax on businesses whether you earn a single dollar or not.

If you're worried about the costs of taxes and other necessary steps to protect your butt if something goes wrong, the business is not a good idea or you lack faith in it.

You can't form a LLC or S-corp in Alabama? In NYC, it is brutal and I fear depositing even a dollar of undocumented money in my bank account.

It's not a lack of faith, but rather a lack of "planning" I guess, especially as just a very small side business. Having capital to back up the business, dealing with other potential issues such as employees if needed (which I would need since I have to maintain a full time job during the days), etc.

And yes, I'm specifically talking about an LLC in Alabama.

I used to run a side business repairing old PS2s back in the day. I did pretty good for a while. I had one deal go sour and I got out of the game. I fixed up a PS2 and it worked, of course in shipping it likely got fucked and I refunded this person a lot of money and just told them to keep the console. I lost about $50 on the deal but was enough for me to say "Fuck this,"
