Never do business if losing such a small amount of profit will jade you or break your business into the red. It was a bad idea from the start or you didn't put enough of your time into it.

My rule of thumb is, will I still make a profit and survive even if 10 orders/customers/products got stolen/stiffed etc? If yes it is a "maybe" viable plan.

Yeah. Well, at the time, I was 18 years old I'd do things a lot differently now

When I was in Biloxi, I could make money off playing poker at the casinos there. I've contemplated doing some app development or web application stuff, but never jumped into it.

Try searching? Rooting devices has been easy from my limited experience.
The instructions are out there but they link to files no longer there or version numbers that my phone isn't.

So my second gig was not as smooth.

I offered to replace my friend's iPhone 4s screen for free just to get experience. After tearing the battery ribbon cable and having to buy a new one of those, I spent a full day trying to figure out why it wouldn't power on. Turns out I had gotten a bad screen. The only other 4s screen I had was a black one and her phone is white. Well...I should say was white. Its now got a white back, black front and white home button until I can get another screen in.

Of course pics of my screwup:

I do computer repairs/builds and I also teach English to Japanese people over Skype. I make some pretty decent booze money from my efforts.

I charge $12 bucks/hour for English lessons. I normally only teach in 2 hour blocks as the language exchange takes a toll on both parties. I get to sharpen my Japanese skills and they get English skills in exchange. I don't have lesson plans for each lesson, I leave it as an open topic. We can discuss movies, music, tv..whatever. We speak Japanese and English interchangeably but I encourage English only when asking questions.

Last year, one of my students, Nina, sent me a care package from Japan with Meiji chocolates and a warm pair of gloves, a scarf, and a hat for the winter!

That's actually not bad. Even as a techy I would probably pay 25 bucks for a basic cell phone repair just so I don't have to do it. I'm sure lot of people would not even be willing to try it so I can see that working nicely.

I don't currently do any kind of side job but I work shifts meaning I have lot of spare time, so I've been pondering on starting some kind of project. One project I have in mind is a server management system, basically a web based system to do everything you can think of. It would be geared mostly towards web hosting but could do lot of other stuff as well. Once that system is done I'd either sell it or release it under GPL and make money off support or just ads on the site etc. I'd also consider starting a small web host, though it's kinda conflict of interest with where I work. Though a few people do it, even managers, so don't think it's really enforced if I'm not directly stealing customers. This would be something online and not local so I'd probably be fine.

I've also been wanting to make a video game, but I'm not really that good at graphics, so I think it's more of a dream than a reality. Though after playing lot of minecraft lately, I've been thinking a Minecraft like game but with a MMO aspect could be interesting as well and the graphics are rather simple.

The hardest part about doing business now days is trying to stay off the lawsuit radar. Other companies, and people, find every little thing to sue. Sucks trying to make a living and end up owing someone millions of dollars because they decide they want that money from you. People can sue for anything these days.

second job was a million times smoother. 4th Gen iPod with a completely smashed screen. Whole thing took no time and it was pretty simple. The only hitch is they didn't include any sticky so it looks like I'll have to get some from the store tomorrow.

Project 3 could be FUBAR. iPhone 3GS that won't restore. Guy swears he didn't do anything to it but from I can tell he had to have tried something and fucked it all up. I've been trying all day to get that damn thing to restore. Or at least boot. But hell no. Of course that was the job I charged the least for.

Congrats OP and best to all our other entrepreneurs.

I sell tinfoil hats on Etsy. Every little bit helps.

pay yourself $5 and put the remaining $20 bill in a picture frame for posterity. "First earnings"

I thought about doing that.

Instead I invested in some inventory. Which I used up when I messed up

But I did buy myself a Rockstar!
