If you can point out where I said I didn't have to pay, I will send you $26 USD, effectively being the biggest score of your new business.

Sorry...read it wrong

And the $25 was just my first job. I charge $75 for iPhone/pod screens, so I've made a few more dollars since the OP.

Pricing is on purpose since its less than most smart phone insurance deductibles and they get their phone back the same day. Cheaper and not being without your phone is usually a win/win for people.

I fix/build computers, and do occasional car repair work, I don't really check what I make, but I do make.

i just repaired my daughter's broken Droid Bionic screen after a local place quoted me $50 flat fee plus parts. I knew the parts could go as high as $50 and the phone wasn't worth $100, so I found a replacement with tools and new seal tape for less than $25. Used Youtube video to guide me and had it done in about an hour. Works perfectly.

I mow my neighbors yard-$60 a pop, takes about 2 hours since she lets it grow high before she calls me but I've got a rider so it's easy money, $30/hr

Suppose I should update.

The competition in my area got pretty intense. People were doing iPhone screens for $50 and iPads for $75. Not enough reward for the risk.

I sold off all my inventory and am threw in the towel. For those prices it's not worth my time

Sorry. I've been doing tons for the cost of parts.

The wife and I have been running a small side business for the last 13 years. We go to yard sales/estate sales on Saturday mornings and then sell our finds online. It started out with a few things here and there and then kind of snowballed. Between eBay and Amazon, over 13 years we've grossed around the mid-six figures with a profit margin that runs around 85%. Our best year was @80K. Also gas, mileage, meals, and associated expenses like packaging, computer equipment, etc. are tax deductible. The extra income allows for some nice vacations/luxury purchases, and we have fun doing it too.

And that's the way business works. I was going to get into logic board repair because the margins in that stuff is intense, even picked up a really nice microscope and iron but I just didn't have the drive to learn.

Maybe if I get bored I'll try it but right now I'm doing very well as a contractor at a small company and don't need the side money as much.

In laws ran a 2nd hand/antique store, with rented spaces, for 30+ years doing the same thing. Did well. Glad they retired. I'm happy to not to have to get up at 6AM on Saturdays and move furniture.
