The closer the pickup is to the center of the string lengthwise, the warmer the tone is. The bridge pickup will be brighter and crisper. Or you can blend the two for a unique sound. A feature of the Les Paul, and Gibsons in general is everything is adjustable. Tone on each pickup, and volume on each pickup. It's like flying an airplane. I prefer the simpler Fender style, with a master volume, and one or two tone pots.Learn me about electric guitars. It has two sets of pickups; what is the difference between the two?

It's an interesting story.
I found a blemished demo of this model on Sweetwater with cosmetic tooling damage to the fret board molding. Priced at half price at 1499. I made the deal to buy it over the phone... or so I thought. I checked in the next day and not only had the sale not gone through, they sold it to someone else.
I was heartbroken. This meant a lot to me. There is a back story to this guitar and why I'm buying it.
You see, way back in 1980 my brother and I spent all our savings on a used Epiphone Les Paul identical to this. We both learned to play on it and dreamed of owning our own real Gibson Les Pauls one day.
That day never came. I joined the army and he gave up playing. He died 10 years ago in a work accident.
They picked up on that and offered to make it good. What they did brought me to tears. They offered a new unblemished model at 1400 to make it good.
I gotta say, Sweetwater is a great store.
It arrives Friday. I can't wait.
This is more than a guitar.
It's a childhood dream come true and a tribute to by brother Erik.
Dude! Story made me cry!I never had a brother, but wish I did!! I just love it when people step up to the plate!! God Bless!!It's an interesting story.

In the end I really know nothing about guitars or most instruments -- barely "learned" sheet music and the cello in elementary school -- but I can fully appreciate the absolute beauty in that guitar.
Is it solid black and reflective, or does it have a painted shifting pattern?

Dude...should have waited a few days
The Namm show starts tomorrow and Gibson is releasing all of its new models. Might have got the older model cheaper!
Anyway, I'm all psyched for this:
https://www.guitarworld.com/news/namm-2019-fender-unveils-jimmy-page-signature-telecasters
I doubt it. They gave me a deal so good it's cheaper than last 5 years used models.
I couldn't be more happy.
But that Tele tho...
The tuxedo Les Paul is a great choice...they always look great The pic shows it already has Grover tuning machines on it (like them a lot more than the Klusons Gibson usually uses), and it already has the hat-knobs instead of those PIA speed knobs. Get a strap lock so you don't drop it (it's a heavy instrument), and get a professional setup once you get it to get the pickup height and intonation right. Should be good to go after that! Will wait to hear some clips
Congrats on the guitar and the deal you got. Sorry to hear about your brother.
Another cool Sweetwater story:
Last time I went to the doctor I had a Sweetwater shirt on. My doctor told me a story about what happened to one of the other doctor's son. The son was about to take a sabbatical and do some touring, playing gigs in various spots around the country. The trailer he was going to use was either stolen or damaged. Somehow the owner of Sweetwater heard about what happened, bought a trailer, flew him down to Indiana with a helicopter, and told him to just give the trailer back when he was done.
I suck so... no clips.
Yep, it does look great! I've loved this look for 35 years!
Sweetwater does the setup free. Hopefully they got it right. Gibson Pleks these models so the action should be a dream.
Any recommendations on an entry level computer interface?
BTW, Its out for delivery right now!!!
Ya know, it's amazing but I have never heard anything bad about this company. And many stories like mine and this one here.
