The Plek system they use is for fret polishing to make sure they're uniform height and have no sharp edges. The bridge and possibly the truss rod may need to be adjusted for string height and intonation. String height is easy- just lower the thumb screws on the bridge until just above the point you get fret buzz if you hold down a string at the 12th fret

For a DAW, go with a Focusrite. They're top notch and inexpensive (You can get a whole studio kit with a great mic, stand, headphones, and unit for around $260).

Sweetwater is like a rich Ma & Pa shop. I like them a lot.

Another place like that is Norman's Rare Guitars. Norm has a heart of gold (check out his YouTube feed- he lets a lot of talented kids play rare instruments to show what they can do with them.) If you get a chance to check out the shop in person, it's in a really weird place and absolutely amazing to stroll through.

He's in the Valley here in LA! I'll have to check him out!

Congrats on the guitar and the deal you got. Sorry to hear about your brother.

Another cool Sweetwater story:

Last time I went to the doctor I had a Sweetwater shirt on. My doctor told me a story about what happened to one of the other doctor's son. The son was about to take a sabbatical and do some touring, playing gigs in various spots around the country. The trailer he was going to use was either stolen or damaged. Somehow the owner of Sweetwater heard about what happened, bought a trailer, flew him down to Indiana with a helicopter, and told him to just give the trailer back when he was done.

Chuck Surack (owner/founder) has a love for flying and the helicopter stories aren't new. Heck he has flown contractors (think building trades) to do work at his house as he has a helipad on his property. He also basically bailed out our small "local" private type airport and of course earned him the naming rights.

Also opened up his own dealership for high end cars (he would usually drive a Bentley GT to our board meetings) but for the most part the collection really isn't impressive even in this midwest town from my own inspection.

The HQ feels like walking into a shopping mall and there is his VW Minibus that he started his business out of for display. Small cafeteria with different stations and game room for employees that looks like an afterthought. Also a small auditorium.

He's done a lot of good for the city, but at the same time some of his actions have been questionable considering how close he is to the mayor. Granted, he is a net positive but combined with our governance I've basically labelled our city "Chicago-Lite" with some of the stuff they are trying to pull.

Any ways, that is one nice guitar.

Hey, I can't bring myself to peel off the protective plastic on the pickguard.

LOL, the plastic on my 2001 Seagull S6 just got removed a couple months ago.

What's wrong with me?

DO do that...if you leave it on it will eventually melt to the board.

A new pick guard is like $20. Gibson sells them. Go nuts

Really? The 20 year old Seagull plastic didn't melt to the pickguard. Weird. Is this a Gibson thing?

Light colored pickguards tend to do that in sunlight for some reason.

The pickguard on my 2005 LP didn't even come attached. I had to screw it into the body myself. Now THAT was nerve-racking

So I just spent the last two days learning how to play Kashmir. I'm proficient enough to make it through a play along... 50% of the time. LOL

OMG it's like butter! This tune is so powerful and on this guitar it's amazing!

And the DADGAD tuning! Holy crap!

Yea, that's a good one. I was playing around with Irish fingerstyle guitar for awhile, and a lot of them were tuned to that. Fun, cause you can setup a drone, and play over it :^)
