I can't really think of a movie I have seen that has had me more terified than this. I read a quote before the movie saying, "The Descent pulls you down into a nightmare that doesn't let you come back up for air until the credits roll." This sums it up perfectly.
All I can say is, I am very glad I saw this during the mid-day!

I am pissed they changed the ending for the US. The UK ending was 100x better. Otherwise great movie.

It was just okay. The first 45 minutes could have been cut out as nothing really happens except them going down and down. when they start to see the monsters however it starts to get damn freaky. i just didn't like how dar the whole movie was, but it sure as hell did a good job at making you feel claustrophobic.

and the very end ... was very meh. i could have done without the very VERY end (if you know what i mean).

over all i'd say it's worth seeing once, but maybe wait till it comes on DVD. it does have some freaky ass parts that made me jump actually, and a plus is that there are pretty much ONLY chicks in this movie w/the exception of a dude in the first 2 minutes.

Not really a spoiler but basically in the US version they cut the last section. You know when you thought everything was done. In the US version they left it at that. In the UK version you get the not so happy ending.

US hollywood felt a happy ending was better.

Which was the UK ending? I am not sure whicvh ending I saw. Can you describe both please?

EDIT: Oh, I saw the ending where she is sitting inside the cave with cake. I didn't really understand it though. Was she just dreaming that she actually made it out?

Also, in the US version, how did it end? With her just sitting in the truck?

ACtually IT is the same movie. They just cut about 30seconds to 2 minutes off the end for the US version.

If you put spoilers in the title I will but I don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't seen it.

You can tell which version you saw by the fact if you saw a happy ending it was the US version.

If it wasn't a happy ending then it was the original UK version how the director wanted it.

In the UK version, falls down that hole, wakes up and escapes. Goes to the car and drives off. Then she wakes up, realizes her escape was a dream and sees she is still in the cave. You don't know what happens but you assume she dies.

In the US version, falls down that hole, wakes up and escapes. Goes to the car and drives off. Nice happy ending.

One explanation for the UK version I have heard is that the ending proves that there were not any monsters. It shows her all alone and bloody. She was the one that killed everyone.

These types of movies are crowd-tested before release w/ various ending scenarios.

So obviously Americans preferred the HAPPY Hollywood ending. And the Brits preferred the STIFF UPPER LIP grind it out ending.

The Birthday Cake- The entire time that Sarah has the hallucination/dream of the little girl blowing out five candles on a birthday cake is symbolic. Fire is life... so five candles, five flames, being extinguished, five lives are ended. Sarah's five friends who die. But at the end, after Sarah has the hallucination of escaping, she sees the girl with the cake again. The famous continuity error to me isn't an error. The cake shows five candles, camera pans out, and the cake now has six candles. To me this is showing that Sarah is now going to die. Six candles, six flames, six lives extinguished in that cave.
I found a good explanation that really makes a lot of sense for the UK version.

That is definately possible.

How does Saw 3 look? I heard the descent was the only movie with its trailer on it so far.

I don't think that is what happened. That would not explain how everyone else saw a bunch of them. What about the asian girl at the end when she saw like 50 of them?

It just doesnt make sense how everyone saw these things, and even 2 peole were getting attacked and killed at the same time by 2 different creatures. So I don't think that's what happened. She was all bloody because she fell into the pool of blood.

Keep in mind that that WHOLE movie could have been presented from her delusional state. The main character was the first to "see" the monsters. She left her medication at the cabin, she was mentally unstable.

They set the groundwork for you view what happened in multiple ways.

I personally like that there were actually monsters but to each their own.

Was Juno cheating on Sarah's husband? The look she gave him in the beginning and how detached the husband was when he was driving...
