I just sold my baby

We have had our 05 MINI Cooper S for sale for a few weeks. Finally people started calling about it and today, someone came and looked at it and bought it.

Just like that, it was sold. I wanted to get rid of it to save some money on a car payment, and could not wait for it to be gone, but now, just looking at the license plate, i have a bitter sweet feeling.
I am glad we sold it, but it was such an awesome car.

Why do people get attached to "things" like cars?

Nope, it depreciated just over $2,000 in 14 months and 17,000 miles. The guy is taking out west to sell, so I'm sure it will go much higher, but it wasn't worth the hassle to me.

Especially for a brand new car

We could have gotten more, but I'm not going to take a week off work to drive the few thousand miles to SoCal to sell it for $5,000 more.

Honestly?

I think our attachment to material items is an attempt to focus our ego into something material and manageable. Existence as a being seperate from our attachemtent to the physical is at one level a frightening thing.

The items you love and pour your being into, in some capacity help define yourself to yourself and the existential questions become a bit more non-threatening.

Many religions and even non-religious spiritual teachings describe detachment from the physical as necessary for the achieving real spiritual progress.

You could endeavor to enjoy the experience as an exercise in severing yourself from material attachment...

I understand your feelings.

I have a Sebring convertible that I'd like to sell while it's still worth what I owe on it. But my wife is so attached to it that it would make me feel horrible if I sold it.

i think not...
maybe it is beacause of all the found memories i have driving around in the summer with my husband, the windows open, warm air blowing in, music loud and just us enjoying each others company in a car that we BOTH picked out and liked.
I think that is why...beacuse of all the memories we have with it.
