Agreed, coming from a small (very small) ranching town, this is a kick in the crotch. I can't believe they made a movie like this, it does nothing more than piss me off. This movie is totaly wrong and so messed up. I have nothing against homosexuality, some of the best people I know are homosexual, but why did they have to turn ranching and everything affiliated with it into something that will now just be taken as a joke. People will just laught now. I can't even put into words how stupid that movie is and how pissed off it makes me. :|

you are right! how DARE they?!?! they completely left out all the animal love!

Do you know of bisexuality? The attraction to both sexes? I'm not saying all the "I found Jesus and he makes me realize gays are evil" people are bisexual, but comparing drunk college chicks to an actual homosexual relationship is folly. I've read MORE stories of homosexual people leaving a straight relationship/marriage because they couldn't keep up the facade than those the other way around.

I guess that would all depend on your source, and yes I have heard of homosexuality. I am talking about the fact that simple fact that they put gays in this storybook setting where everything has been described as looking like a postcard does not sound like a realy setting, and just to answer the question earlier, no I have never met a gay cowboy, not to say there has never been one, but I have never met nor heard of one.

And I would like to point out that I am not sone back woods redneck that thinks the world would be a better place without gays. I happen to be an educated man, I just find this immoral to my beliefs much like some people found the ending to million dollar baby immoral.

I guess that would all depend on your source, and yes I have heard of homosexuality. the two men in Brokeback Mountain aren't "gay", the word "gay" wasn't even in widespread use to describe homosexual men in the time the movie is set.

Its in use now and I am using it to describe homosexual men now, why does it matter that it was not in use during the time frame of the movie?

because it is inaccurate. a gay person is someone who willingly chooses to adopt a gay social identity. A homosexual person is someone who is attracted to someone of the same gender. The concepts are entirely different. gay != homosexual. A gay person is a homosexual who incorporates his homosexuality into his social identity. (i.e., tells people what he is). That doesn't happen in the movie - the two guys try to keep their relationship secret, they try to meet all the expectations that are place on men in that time (marry a woman, have kids, etc) and one of the men even at one point says they aren't "queers".

I know. I just thought I'd point out a community of people that live the classic Western style and are homosexual/transgendered/bisexual/etc.
Perhaps the writer of the movie purposely chose a culture that is very hostile towards homosexuals for contrast. The "We're people too" angle could hit harder.

I agree with nthedrk when it comes to homosexuality. Moreover, I can say that I personally don't believe in it and that I equate it on the same level as having animal sex. Now you may disagree with what I say but thats how I feel.

Just because acceptance of a lifestyle is deemed popular doesn't necessarily make it right.

That said, I'll also say that what people do in their own lives is none of my business. I do have acquaintances that are incredibly intelligent and who are openly gay and that doesn't bother me when I interact with them. They are people who made their choices and while I don't want any part of it, I can still work and act in a professional manner with them. In short I don't judge them just because they are gay.

I think it was quite the logical objection. It's very good that it doesn't influence how you treat them, but you have clearly judged them. Also you said "I know people that are intelligent and gay", which shows that you definitely view it as a negative trait.

I won't get into a argument about words, but it really seemed to me that you passed judgement upon them, associating homosexuality with bestiality. You can still treat a person like a person and judge them negatively in your mind.

My disposition to homosexuality lies on the same spectrum as is with beastiality. These are things that I don't approve of personally.
As people I don't think of them any different than anybody else. In my opinion they could be leading a different lifestyle at home but as long as I am not exposed to it, I really don't care because there's nothing I can do about it.

Its just hard to explain in words without implying something that I don't mean.
