I have a couple. They're ugly and appropriate for use under a kitchen sink or in the garage.

If you're putting a trashcan or wastebasket somewhere where people can see it, you're talking metal, probably shiny, probably matched to your appliances if it's in the kitchen, etc.

~$80 for a trash can that looks good next to the stove, or ~$80 for a hunk of wood that sits on a shelf? That trash can is a deal.

If you're at a place in life where you can spend a couple grand on home furnishings to make your environment comfortable and/or something you can take some pride in, $80 for a trashcan is trivial.

Now, $200 for a pair of jeans? That's just insane.

Except, you know, this is a rental apartment in a probably not very nice area of San Jose with a window A/C unit complimented by classy plywood shield to fill in the space. Just so you have an idea.

Don't worry, bud! I'll make it good looking. I'll paint the wood a small bit so that it matches the walls. I'll add a nice plexiglass or glass top frame to it. It'll be decent.

I kinda like like that "hunk of wood", it's hand-crafted, fairly large, and looks nice. I don't see $80 for that as a waste at all.

Please don't forget to post pics of the finished project and tape a sheet of paper with ATOT with a sharpie so we know you didn't just swipe a pic off Google.

exactly my point. It's about priorities.

Seeing is believing.

80$ for something kinda kitsch to take away floorspace. If I need to fill a floor area I'd put rugs on it, it's functional.

I'll bet that the ladies would LOVE seeing something like that in the bedroom
That's my kitchen trash can. Grocery bags mostly fit as a liner, and I don't make much trash. Regardless, I'm by myself, and like it that way. If I some day get taken over by insanity, and get attached to a woman, I'll likely still be cognizant enough to insist on my terms for household upkeep, and style.

Rest assured, you'll never be troubled by a long term relationship with a woman.

As a side note, is TridenT in training to be Alky junior?

This.

"Yes ATOT, this is my air conditioner"

You can also do what I did and mod the hell out of it to boost the efficiency, though that's not really required with a window unit.

It's ugly, but it works, for the 1-2 month of the year that I need AC. I should at least paint that wood though. Every year I tell myself I should, and never end up doing it, I probably even have enough primer and paint here to do it.

Maybe you should do it in Stainless Steel to match the trash can!

I have the 30L rectangular model.

It's also supposedly "fingerprint proof" (although I call bullshit).

It does look really nice in the kitchen.

I would have splurged for one large enough to live in when you're inevitably unemployed again.

Honestly, I kinda want to do this to our bedroom. We could leave our normal A/C off most of the day, and all night. Obviously when asleep we only need the A/C to be cooling one room in the house.

I paid $79 for my Air conditioner. It has been serving me faithfully for 4 years.

Lucky you, bub. I don't think I can even get one that cheap. I bought one for $232 after tax. Highly rated though and has some features.

Im using a rubbermaid that's about 7 years old. Granted I bought it when we lived in Sacramento
Haha.

Mine is like this one below:

Except it has a sliding, half-moon type lid. It was actually from the kitchen in my parents' old house, and I don't remember when we got it but I'm pretty sure I was probably in grade school or junior high, and I'm 31 now. Still works fine and looks fine. Guess I'm not cool enough for Silicon Valley.

Yeah it must take some powerful A/C to cool down the room considering how full of hot air you are.

That probably looks really awesome once it is full of nasty garbage that is visible through the slightly transparent garbage bag. Way to class up your room!

Heh, I do use transparent bags for recycling. And it does kinda look awesome. When these run out I may try to get the transparent blue tinted ones.

I stopped using those bags for regular trash though because I didnt want people to see what trash I had when I took it to the dumpster. But I'm really messy anyways, so I dont care if they see it in my place. More trash outside of the bag than inside it!

I'm not sure what my trash can cost. I had two custom lower cabinets made (one for mixed recycling and one for trash) with a pull out drawer and a trash can liner that fits into the apparatus. I suppose that it would be the cost of the two cabinets, the soft-close guides, and the 6 to 8 square feet of marble counter top.

Having a trash can out in the open in a kitchen clutters things. I do have miniature Simplehuman cans in the bathrooms, though.
Cool story bro!

Seriously, are you completely unable to post non-douchebag, elitist comments? How was the marble countertop in any way relevant other than to brag?

You deny it, but your posting history is a dead ringer for Alky's.

Look at all of these documents that I found while going through my file cabinet.
