I just stepped on a small nail used for picture hanging.

The nail is about quarter of an inch long - no rust, but I know the tetanus bacteria can still be found without rust.

Does anyone remember if college requires a tetanus shot before entering school? I know booster shots last for 10 years, and if that's the case and college requires it, I would have my last one in 2001.

I went to University of New Hampshire if it makes any difference. Couldn't find anything on Google and it's 2:05am!

Is it all colleges? I remember getting shots, just don't remember which ones. I wasn't too worried until I heard what kind of lock jaw and muscle spasms you can get...

I thought tetanus was largely overblown, and much less common in urban environments? Don't die on account of my largely unsubstantiated claims though.

My college required all sorts of vaccines, but I never sent in the paperwork and they never bothered me beyond one letter.

I took it out of a picture frame to install a different type of hanger. When I got up, I stepped on it by accident. I'm not sure how deep it went... shaving is a very superficial cut.

And there doesn't tend to be much wet dirt in sheet rock. The possibility of a nail in your wall having tetanus on it is very low.

Quite honestly, your only worry is normal stuff from cuts...slap some Neosporin and a band aid if you're worried, otherwise let it heal however you normally let stuff heal. Tetanus is not an issue here.

Sounds pretty superficial. Clean it out well, make sure it gets plenty of air (the bug is anaerobic)

I am pretty sure if you call your Centurion rep they have a method you can just hold the phone up to your arm and they can administer a tetaenus shot via the wire. May want to look into it.

Do this, but clean it with some peroxide first.
