Whoa! What a cool gift and how fitting. I say you don't get anything in return. For the most part I am all for etiquette but you don't need to return the favor when it's a thank you gift. I think that's sort of cheesy. Then after you give them a gift, do they give you one to thank you for your thank you for their thank you?

The OP had the gift idea in mind long before they showed up at his door with a gift for him. There is nothing wrong with him giving a gift to the girls to cheer them up and lift their spirits.

Gift ideas: Stuffed or decorative dog. Seriously, they should be receiving trauma therapy and being able to associate good feelings with 'dogs' is going to be a part of it. Just a thought.

OP, very good job, we are proud of you.

For those of you that asked why people would breed these dogs, answer = $$$$$.

Down here, we have some illegal dog fightings <mostly pitbulls> and the bets are in the thousands. The cops busted one of the ring about 3 months ago.

We also have thugs and gangsters wannabees buy/sell/trade these dogs and walk around with them like some kind of honor badges.

The problem is the asshat owners, not the dog. We have a pit and another dog that have slept on our bed for 9 years and been around plenty of strangers coming to the house, etc. NEVER had a problem.

Think about it. If they are bred for fighting each other, you can't have them be people aggresive as well. How would you handle them if they were? Especially to give medical care. I'm sure there are plenty of breeders who do look for human aggresiveness, but it isn't their by nature.

I gaurantee we will never have a better dog in our house. All future dogs that we have will be judged against Shelby. Absolute sweetest, loyal, lap dog I've ever had. If we are on the floor wrestlign with our dogs Shelby refuses to "bite" down if your hand is in her mouth.

Now, a truely dangerous dog either needs LOTS of therapy or put down, but, the OWNER should be put down as well.

EDIT: Nice job breaking it up!!!!!

I'm thinking the 15 yr old isn't going to like Chuck E Cheese.

Why not try something different, like a day at an amusement park, or horseback riding, or inviting the families over for a barbque and giving the girls flowers (little girls like flowers too!)... things along these lines.

Frank, this thread touched me... you are a good good man

Flowers and a Get Well card seem like a good idea.
Good job man, takes some balls to go up to two dogs like that with just your fists.

fvcking ugly dogs. Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that pits attacked a whole bunch of people here in the area and they had to go in the hospital with serious insuries ?

Thanks for the ideas of what to do for the girls.

I think I just want to see them having a good time, to replace my last and most prominent vision of them, being attacked. Kind of a 'visual therapy' for me and a fun time for them.

The amusement park is a great idea. I like that one better than Chuck E Cheese. I think the fifteen year old is the kind of girl that will have a good time when her little sister is having a good time.

I think I'll see when the local kiddie rides open up.

Thanks again.

Updated once more.

Who kicks a dog to stop them from attacking? That's just stupid.

Good job, though!

a hard kick to the side of the head can knock one unconscious

yup... i was jogging one night during high school and a dog was chasing me and barking at me (it was weird, because it was a yellow lab... they're nice dogs). well, anyways, i turned around and kicked it on the side of the head. it fell, laid there for about 2 seconds, got back up and ran the other way wimpering (i was still running... it wasn't like i just stood there).

The best gift they can get right now is finding out who the owner is.

If an owner can be verified you can be sure the girls' health insurance company will be seeking damages to reimburse them for the medical expenses. And if the girls' parents are smart, they'll get a lawyer and seek their own damages from the owner (most likely through his homeowner's insurance.) I never considered myself a person that would sue somebody, but after my wife was attacked by a dog and after seeing how the owner and their insurance were being horribly uncooperative in paying for my wife's medical bills I finally realized in some cases it's necessary.

Nice pictures. That's only a moderately sized pit bull. One of my brother's pit bulls is a couple inches shorter than the brown one you posted and probably six inches wider. Great dog. The four year old kid rides on its back all the time.

I feel bad for the two dogs in this thread. They're just dumb animals that had bad owners. Now they're going to be (or at least SHOULD be) put down. Oh well.

Man, that's a thick pit bull. I bet it was fun holding onto that. I can only imagine the thoughts in your head when you saw the second dog approach.....glad she wasn't aggresive.
