or The Ant Bully, Pocahontas, The Battle for Terra, The Last Samurai, Dances With Wolves, blah blah blah blah blah

Yeah well with every one it's getting even more old and played out. I liked the movie but seriously that was such a shallow and overplayed plot. I kept feeling that the whole time. Not just the plot but how it played out too. Every scene was totally cliche.

I still give it a good rating. I just wish it could have gone the extra mile in all areas besides the 3D (which was awesome too).

I'm doing my part for the environment.

And...

And if it matters, when I set myself up with a HDTV I'll probably buy the bluray, along with other movies that I've watched on my PC. It's not really because I don't want to pay, it's because it's more convenient. No waiting in line, no crowds, no crying kids etc.

....so, you're a thief.

I saw Avatar with my GF on a fake "IMAX" 3d-screen. I say fake imax because it was not as large as it should have been compared to the real IMAX theaters i've been too.

Visiually it was very pretty, and it's one of those movies that is best seen in the theater, however it also reminded me of

I was trying to think of how people would like it if the humans were a different nationality or if they were a different ethnicity.

Also, I've told my mom that its a pretty movie that should be watched in the theater but that they may not like the plot or the pacing.

No, thieves remove the original. I did not break into a store to steal a physical DVD. That would be stealing. Nobody lost anything by me downloading a movie that I would not have paid to go see anyway. In fact now that I saw it, I might actually buy the DVD when I get a decent HT setup. Or I'll just wait till the Trilogy comes out in as a set.

I'm sure it was asked but unless the theater specifically says this is 3d I should assume it's only a non-3d version of avatar, right?

I saw it the other day and it was alright. It was purdy and they had plenty of nice CG effects, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the movie was rather long and drawn out... so much more than was necessary. I almost think that Cameron simply did it because he wanted to show off his make-believe world that he had to add extra scenes to do it .

I agree with others that it was rather predictable and the exact ending was pretty apparent about halfway through
when they tried to infuse the doctor
.

One thing I did like was simply the fact that it was in 3D, but not that entirely. My local theater has been using the old, blotchy projectors for so long that I can't stand the idea of paying $9.50 to watch a terribly adjusted move. For example, when I saw Sherlock Holmes, the projector wasn't even centered and the subtitles were mostly off the screen. Albeit there weren't many subtitles in the movie, but still.... But anyway, since it was in Digital 3D, that meant they were using DLP for the movie and it looked so much better than all the other movies I've seen in a theater. I hope they start using DLP for the majority of their movies!

Also, the nerdy 3D glasses could fit somewhat comfortably over my normal glasses, which made it a decent movie-watching experience. I was worried that my lack of desire to put in my contacts would make it a poor experience for me.

I'm sure it was asked but unless the theater specifically says this is 3d I should assume it's only a non-3d version of avatar, right?

Pretty certain that's how it is. My local theater specifically called it "Avatar in Digital 3D."

Cool, I will take this down tonight probably. Only two theaters locally seem to have the 3d one. There is an imax theater but I suppose I won't bother.

Skoorb your assumption is correct.

Avatar on the giant - 5 story tall 80 foot by 60 foot imax screen is absolutely breathtaking.

Google LFExaminer and look it up. "3D" indicates an Imax 3d installation - which is really just a digital projector - possibly 4k, maybe 2x 2k projectors, on a slightly larger than typical moviehouse screen. 1570 is usually the massive 60 foot tall screen.

Here is a test to see if you are looking at a real Imax screen - Is the building capable of holding a 5 story structure inside?

Is it in a "movie theater" or "multiplex" style? If so you are likely about to pay more for a slightly larger than normal screen.

Is it in a museum, theme park, or other non-traditional movie venue? It is more likely to be a real Imax screen. For instance, the 3 theaters "near" me that have a real imax screen, are "Museum of Discovery and Science" in downtown FLL, the "Kennedy Space Center" near Cocoa, the "Orlando Science Center" in Orlando, . There is also a real Imax in the Regal in Orlando, the Muvico in St. Pete.

To add to the confusion, The AMC in South Miami, the Cinemark/Muvico in West Palm Beach, and the "other" Regal in Orlando are all small screens.

Its much better on the real Imax. The screen completely fills your field of view. It is so big you may not be able to see it all.

Most folks who have "an Imax theater" usually mean the digital version, and in my opinion its well worth the drive to the relatively rare full size screens.

I will also say that the 3d aspect was mind-blowing. BUT unlike Coraline, I feel I would enjoy the movie regardless of the 3d. In fact I think it might have been worse for the action scenes.

I will also say that while the sound in the Digital Imax theaters is very, very good. I was absolutely rocked by the real imax installations audio. It is an order of magnitude better.

The one we have locally as a Cinemark IMAX. I'm not sure if it's real or not but it's a bit far so I'm just going to go with "Digital 3d".
