and maybe my DVD was defective, but after Dent pretends to be batman and the joker tries to kill him, he gets in a car and says 'i have a very upset girlfriend to tend to' or whatever....and then all of a sudden next scene everyone is acting like he's been captured. Did they skip a scene or something?!?!

Dude, did you even WATCH the movie? He just dangles there while the feds bring him in. He's still alive.

I still liked them better Seriously though, I thought Batman was just ok and wouldn't add it to my DVD collection with the likes of:

Seven
Million Dollar Baby
Forrest Gump
Shawshank Redemption
Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels
Good Will Hunting
Rain Man
etc..

These are the movies that in my "holy shit that was good" category. Not Dark Knight...

Odd, I like all those movies as well but LOVE The Dark Knight. There's plenty of things wrong with it, but I felt the entirety of the movie was good enough to overshadow batman's stupid voice, maggie acting pretty poorly, and (IMO) over the top c-gen of two face's burnt face.

I agree with OP, I really liked Batman Begins but Dark Knight wasn't mindblowing. It was just action scene-after-action scene, I dunno it got pretty old.

Though, I will reserve the right to change my opinion after a second viewing since I was completely exhausted when I saw it in theaters and almost passed out during the movie several times.

If it's like the last one I expect it to be too long and a bit dull. I have it next in netflix queue but the commotion for the last was too much, but this is often the case with superhero movies. The only one that has not disappointed in recent memory is iron man. Frankly, that movie kicks a vast, unabashed amount of ass and lives up to high expectations.

Are you kidding me? That was easily one of the best movies of this year.

Did you see 3 movies all year? I mean usually even if I don't like the movie or genre it's in I can usually appreciate how someone else could enjoy it. This was like a movie that replaces plot content with explosions...except there weren't many explosions...and next to no plot

Name three movies that were better than Batman this year.

I am asking because I am curious as to what movies you liked.

How about "YOU" name 3 movies that were better than Bat Man this year?

I'm not coming to this guy's rescue, it's just that everyone has an opinion and most of you have half a brain to understand this!

Oh, I bet you thought Twilight was good because your girl dragged you to see it?!?

Calm down Chauncy, I dont think it was the best movie at all. I wanted to know what movies the OP likes, he doesnt need an idiot like you to help defend himself.

As for my opinion, its along the lines of what tallbill said a few posts up.

yeah, like I'm not saying it's an AWFUL movie.....but saying it was amazing, or that Ledger's performance was haunting or amazing I think just goes to how watered down American cinema is now. It was decent. Not great. The whole movie felt crammed in like they were trying to cram 4 hours of stuff into 2.5 hours. They could've probably made 2 movies out of it and fleshed it out much better.

I love it, but there is one movie that tops it, IMO. Iron Man.

Oh, hell yeah!

Oof. THAT movie was awful. Just awful. Blatantly appealing to supressed nerds who want to have millions of dollars and hot girls around them so that they can show all those bullies who attacked them in school. Awful movie. My gf said she'd dump me if I ever tried to get her to watch a movie that bad again.

I also like all the movies on that list but I quoted you because the way they made two-face's face look so fake pissed me off.

It lived up to my expectations = win. And imho, if I hadn't known before hand the Ledger was playing The Joker I might not have guessed until late in the movie. I've never been a fan of him, but I loved his Joker. He was excellent.

And Iron Man was great too. I was hoping for more action, but it was definitely entertaining and actually pretty funny. RDJr plays cocky and arrogant so well. He was perfect as Tony Stark. And in that regard, Bale does a pretty good Bruce Wayne too... though his Batman voice initially kind of annoyed me in Begins... it kinda grew on me.

Anyone expecting more than comic action movies from either of those needs their head checked.

Keaton was the better batman, Ledger was the better joker, and the last 2 batmans are > all other batman movies.

I'm not saying it was awful....but I mean....I'm confused, why is this one of the best movies ever?? Are there really that many repressed losers out there who identify with the ideals of batman that they see themselves enacting that life for themselves if only given the chance, that their undying praise of this movie drowns out those that say 'wait...that's it??'

Oh, and Heath Ledger's performance was average. I'm sorry, but if he was alive today no one would be making that big of a deal of it. I keep hearing about how it was such a dark performance that it drove him back to using pills.....um.....it wasn't THAT dark. I mean he had a few moments, but other than that...

Overall a movie with average amounts of action, average acting performances, below average character depth....and that's about it.

Yeah I thought both sucked.

Heath was pretty good...I'd say definitely above average, but I simply found him very intriguing...he didn't really make me feel any...which is what I think is most important.

I thought it was slightly overrated, but I still think it was a pretty good movie. Heath Ledger definitely owned that part though. He went from being the pretty boy in all of the other movies to the lunatic villain. I thought it was a great switch for what he used to do.

Go play in traffic.

Neither of those movies are Academy Award winners, but why the fuck would you waste your money on a genre of movies you obviously have no desire to see? Both of them were exactly what they were hyped to be - above average superhero movies based on comic icons.

What kind of tool goes to movies he knows he won't enjoy just to talk smack about them?

Maybe the movie was too hard for you to understand. stick with G rating.

I dislike certain genres but I end up seeing them due to the wife...

Maybe his wife made him go see Dark Knight and Ironman??

Oh and I agree with monowar, Ironman > Dark Knight

You are the second person who watched it for the first time on DVD and said this.

I wonder if it is due to unrealistic expectations from the hype.

I also preferred Batman Begins to The Dark Knight.

BB was a much more cohesive and thought out film that really got me excited to see what Nolan was going to do with the franchise. TDK, aside from Ledger's amazing performance (despite being a bit too similar to Goldblum's role in The Fly), was a mediocre and forgettable film all things considered. Nolan tried to do way too much in too short a time and the pacing of the film suffered severely from it. There were a few other ridiculous things that I was able to look past because it's a fantasy/comic book film, but again, aside from Ledger's performance there really wasn't a whole lot of great film to hang your hat on. It's very surprising that with a movie filled with some great talent like Freeman and Oldman and Bale that it could turn out so lackluster.

TDK was simply brilliant. The acting was top notch, the visuals were incredible, and the audio was fantastic.

The way they tied it all together at the end with the whole "Dark Knight" theme was the product of a well thought out and wonderful script. Quite frankly I haven't seen a Batman movie come close to the depth that this one had.

She seems to hate it as well.

I'm just curious as to who says "Hey, lets go watch a movies about a billionaire playboy who creates a super suit and becomes a superhero.!" Then says, walking out of the theatre,. "WTF? That was a movie about some billionaire playboy who creates a super suit and fight crime! Who would want to see that?!"
