Had a blind cat once. He had mapped the house out remarkably well so could move fairly quickly throughout it without much trouble. There would be the occasional hiccup of course.

My niece takes in pets that are sick or blind or have diabetes, old, owners have died.
In short the pets no one would adopt.
She has a lovable blind dog now named "Bump"
I've seen that headlong rush into a wall recently, OP.

My friend has a blind cat. I didn't realize it was blind for over a year.

It had no problems running around the house, jumping up on stuff, etc.

Mine's not blind...but looks very similar:

However, we suspect she's either going a bit senile...or perhaps losing her eyesight. She does some damned odd things recently...and acts like she either doesn't see clearly...or is just plain fucking losing it. (she'll be 15 this year)

The first cat my wife & I had was deaf. White cat, one blue eye, one green eye...couldn't hear a damned thing. When she went outside at night, I "called" her by flicking the porch light on/off...she always came running.

It's pretty neat to get a cat that will come to you when calling it. Most always try to play joe cool.

The one in the picture rarely leaves my side...even when I hit the crapper...she's right at my feet.

She's a "bottle-fed baby." We got her at 2 days old...I fed her formula 5-6 times per day...gave her baths, etc. As far as she knows, I'm her momma...or at least, the only momma she's ever known

Impy wasn't always so blind which I think is why he has trouble now. He was a stray we trapped in 2003. He had been injured with one of his legs half ripped off by either a dog or coyote. This is Impy just after returning from the vet.

He suffered taurine deficiency as a stray which had already damaged his sight plus an injury to one eye. Then he went through a bout of toxoplasmosis further damaging his sight and finally he has developed cataracts. We are trying a cataract treatment now that the vet thinks might shrink the cataracts to bring back some of his sight. He can see light and dark and detect motion. When he gets excited he sort of aims for the light which isn't the best strategy in a house where all the walls are white.

He is a traditional siamese with the associated talkiness and desire to ride on people's backs. In bright sunlight you can see that his head is even blacker than the rest of him.

I found a cat at work once who's eyes looked like they were rotted out. Oozing, and kind of gross all around. The cat was a real sweetheart though, and it lived in my van for a couple of days. I ended up taking it to the shelter, where I'm sure it was put down. That's bothered me to this day. I would have loved to keep the cat, but I didn't have the money to fix it, and I didn't want my cat to catch whatever it was that cat had. If I didn't already have a cat, I would have tried fixing it myself :^(

Your cat is living in the lap of luxury, and it wasn't hurt, right? It isn't sad, so there's no reason for you to be : )

I know a blind cattle dog, and NOTHING stops her! She runs in to stuff all the time! if she can't go over it or plow through it she backs away moves about 15 degrees to the right or left and then rushes forward again. She is The Indominable Polly-Wog the Cattle Dog!!!

And snuggles and smoochies for the brave kitteh! (I'd suggest giving him a super awesome nick name like Polly's)

Kitties!

Our cat has heterochromia and isn't blind, but has very poor vision in one of her eyes. It really messes with her depth perception.

Everyone in the apartment complex I lived in knew who Ugly was. Ugly was the resident tomcat. Ugly loved three things in this world: fighting, eating garbage, and, shall we say, love.

The combination of these things combined with a life spent outside had their effect on Ugly. To start with, he had only one eye and where the other should have been was a hole. He was also missing his ear on the same side, his left foot appeared to have been badly broken at one time, and had healed at an unnatural angle, making him look like he was always turning the corner.

Ugly would have been a dark gray tabby, striped type, except for the sores covering his head, neck, and even his shoulders. Every time someone saw Ugly there was the same reaction. “That’s one UGLY cat !”

All the children were warned not to touch him, the adults threw rocks at him, hosed him down, squirted him when he tried to come in their homes, or shut his paws in the door when he would not leave. Ugly always had the same reaction.

If you turned the hose on him, he would stand there, getting soaked until you gave up and quit. If you threw things at him, he would curl his lanky body around your feet in forgiveness.

Whenever he spied children, he would come running, meowing frantically and bump his head against their hands, begging for their love.

If you ever picked him up he would immediately begin suckling on your shirt, earrings, whatever he could find.

One day Ugly shared his love with the neighbor’s dogs. They did not respond kindly, and Ugly was badly mauled. I tried to rush to his aid. By the time I got to where he was laying, it was apparent Ugly’s sad life was almost at an end.

As I picked him up and tried to carry him home, I could hear him wheezing and gasping, and could feel him struggling. It must be hurting him terribly, I thought.

Then I felt a familiar tugging, sucking sensation on my ear. Ugly, in so much pain, suffering and obviously dying, was trying to suckle my ear. I pulled him closer to me, and he bumped the palm of my hand with his head, then he turned his one golden eye towards me, and I could hear the distinct sound of purring.

Even in the greatest pain, that ugly battled scarred cat was asking only for a little affection, perhaps some compassion. At that moment I thought Ugly was the most beautiful, loving creature I had ever seen. Never once did he try to bite or scratch me, try to get away from me, or struggle in any way. Ugly just looked up at me completely trusting in me to relieve his pain.

Ugly died in my arms before I could get inside, but I sat and held him for a long time afterwards, thinking about how one scarred, deformed little stray could so alter my opinion about what it means to have true pureness of spirit, to love so totally and truly.

Ugly taught me more about giving and compassion than a thousand books, lectures, or talk show specials ever could, and for that I will always be thankful. He had been scarred on the outside, but I was scarred on the inside, and it was time for me to move on and learn to love truly and deeply. To give my total to those I cared for.

Many people want to be richer, more successful, well liked, beautiful, but for me…I will always try to be Ugly.
