If I lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere like Mel Gibson's character in the movie Signs, and found out aliens were landing on earth, I would probably drive to the big city and hide in a office tower or something. I certainly wouldn't attempt to hide on tiny farm in a location that aliens have already been aware of. That's just plain stupid.

In the event of a big crisis like alien invasion, war, natural disaster, etc., the last place you want to be is in a big city. Because you'll have to deal with the crisis, plus the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of other freaked out, panicing people around you (and depending on what's going on you might also have to deal w/giant buildings falling around you).

I highly doubt anyone would stay at a location where aliens are already known to have been, or still reside at. This was the case with Mel Gibson's character's farm. Makes no sense that they would stay there in that tiny house when he saw the aliens roaming in the crops less than 30 yards away. And statistically, you have a better chance living being in large numbers. It's just a matter where you decide to mount your defence, or simply hide.

Since we're already OT...

I agree I probably wouldn't stay at the farm house to fight (although I thought they later changed their mind and wanted to leave, but it was too late. It's been a while sense I saw it), but running to the big city is jumping outta the frying pan and into the fire. Large groups of people also attract large amounts of troops, bombs, and are usually the first things to get invaded and/or wiped off the map. Ideally I'd like to join a relatively large group of people who are hiding out in the country somewhere.

I thought the movie has no strong storyline. The slowness and prolonging of the movie gave almost no extra time for side stories that could connect to the end except when his wife died and told him to "swing away." But even with that, it was a bit disappointing to see the end taking a nosedive after a atmospheric buildup in the first half. Characters are indepth because of the way they talk. They talk so slow that they sound like they're sleepy throughout the entire movie. If they are all to talk in nomal pace, the movie would be 45 minutes long. I think his bag of tricks ended when The Sixth Sense ended. It's hard for a director/writer to top himself if his earlier film is a hit. He is trapped by his own career now.

I saw Signs without seeing more than one or two trailers, so I didn't really know what to expect when I saw it. I really like the movie and even more after I saw it again later. I think the reason why most people hate the movie is because the previews made it out to be a standard alien movie, which it wasn't. It was about one man questioning his faith when bad things around him were happening. You don't see anyone die or get hurt, even though Mel Gibson is the lead role. Although a couple of dogs die but that's a little different. I actually thought the ending was very good. The way every litlle detail fit together to restore one man's faith was amazing. The second time you even see more little details that fit perfectly. I'll admit the aliens weakness was unrealistic because there is a lot of water vapor in the air. However, I can overlook that because most alien/space movies aren't even close to science. Honestly, if you want to see an action movie where the aliens get blown up like the typical alien movie and not the struggles of one family, this movie isn't for you. However, if you want to see a different kind of alien movie, you might like this.

Look there was this little part of the movie where there was an issue involving aliens. Maybe you missed it though. Anyway, this little part was so stupid and unbelieveble that it makes a lot of people angry. This in turn completely takes you out of the movie and makes you care much less about the extremely cheesy "questioning his faith" thing.

Signs was made for people who love going around telling people, "Nah man, you just don't get it!"

Uh, no, we do get it and it's still fscktarded.

Signs has got to be one of the worst movies I have seen in my life. Right down there with "the Avengers" , "The Blair Witch" (1 &2) and "Batman and Robin".

This movie had plot holes the size of the universe!!!!!! I mean aliens that have masterd intergalactic travel but exhibit the inteligence of a reptile? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!

To those who say "its not about the aliens": You can't just ignore the plot holes and say "The message was nice, therefore it was a nice movie". A 9 year old could have written a more coheren plot that included the (somewhat dumb) message.

<CBG> Worst movie EVER! </CBG>

I loved this damn movie! I was screaming like a school girl during the suspense parts.

I rate this up there with Independence Day as a good "movie-theater" movie.

Please make more like it !!! :disgust::|:Q:frown:

Bull $hit. Signs is a very good, orginal movie.

Sorry, but I don't see any plot holes. How do we know how a alien race acts? Maybe these guys were just the "worker" drones. Maybe the aliens that actually went house to house and collected humans were our equivalent to dogs? or maybe they were just slaves to the master alien race. The master race who did not give a crap how many of their slaves were killed or left behind. When people say the movie wasn't about aliens this is what they mean. The movie isn't centered around them, it's centered around Mel Gibson's family. Man, some people have no imagination...... go back and watch "The Fast And The Furious" for the 10th time. At least when you watch that you don't need to use your brain.

The water arguments are always funny. What if the earth was the only other planet that had life to eat? That would explain why they came to a water covered planet. The water vapour in the air argument is even better. Water is not very conductive to human life either. We drown if we are sunk in it but live fine in vapour in the air. The aliens just die if it gets on them in a significant amount but survive in the vapour in the air. Just a matter of how much is toxic.

All these arguments are dumb anyways since we are discussing made up creatures in a made up movie.

Personally I liked the movie because it made me want to climb behind the couch and cry for my mommy just with suspense.

I live in Penn. about a hop skip and a jump from bucks county. After my little back yard, there's about 150 acres of field, mostly corn. Yes, the movie did have a little flaws here and there, it still scared the bejesus out of me. Oh and, what's there to get? I'm not sure.

Hmmm... so far I agree that surviving in a rural environment is easier than in a large urban environment, different levels of toxins (in this case water) prove to have different effects upon a given series, and that 'getting it' is a relative term.

I also believe that people living in rural environments probably liked the movie better. I've lived in the country, and I've lived in the city.

I still like the movie. Good luck changing my mind.

Do you know how stupid your post is? "At least when you watch that you don't need to use your brain". Signs is exactly that kind of movie! If you spend even 3 seconds thinking about it, you will realize how inconsistent the plot was. Instead you like it because it gives you some warm fuzzy feeling.

An alien race comes to earth, where water is perhaps the most abundant substance, even though they can die from water. Of course, wearing some kind of protective covering (people discovered thousands of years ago that oiling any ordinary cloth can make it water-proof) would make sense. And common sense has no place in this movie it seems.

So they want me to believe that an alien race which has mastered inter-galactic travel (which means they are about 1000 years ahead of us technologically) has not figured out a way make clothing water-proof?

And no, I have never seen The Fast and the Furious, although I am betting its plot is 100x better than Signs. Hell, I can pull a better plot out of my ass.

So what if it wasn't a good movie. Mel was in it. That's all it needed to make money.
