My wife and I were out for a run, getting out some aggression after fighting over the mortgage on our first house that we are buying. I pulled up at the bottom of a hill to see if she wanted to stop, and we walked around the corner while she told me why I was wrong.
While I tried to stare holes in my feet, we turned a corner and saw three chickens strutting away in the front yard of yet another suburban home. They weren't caged, they weren't leashed, they didn't have electronic collars on them. After a long day this pretty much left me dumbfounded, so we stared and I tried to fit this into my worldview, when one of the geniuses tried to make a beeline for the road. We herded them back into the yard, knocked on the idiots door whose chickens had gotten out, and got no help.
The couple was watching jeopardy, but had no idea where chickens came from. They also had no phone book to call animal control, but the neighbors had apparently seen them strutting down the road earlier while cars slowed down, stared, and took pictures.
The hungry Samaritan that I am, we nabbed then and caught a ride with the Jepordanians, hoping a quick call to the pound would clear things up. We volunteer there(though we are relapsed) and I know they added a small barn during the last expansion to handle the occasional horse, although so far I believe they have only had goats.
Animal control is afraid of chickens, we have to hold them until the vet comes in tomorrow at 9:30. In the meantime there are 3 well cared for and good natured chickens in a dog crate in my driveway. Anyone got chicken tips? I'm hoping to keep them alive for the night, its only getting down to 51 and I figure they can live in the cage in the garage for the night.
